Researchers have developed a new blood test which could identify which patients would need urgent care.

The test, which only requires one drop of blood, measures an early warning signal in the body that kick starts the immune system.

According to the researchers, the test can predict which patients will develop potentially deadly secondary infections such as pneumonia.
