On Friday evening, June 16th, 2017 the Maryland State Police with the help from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Highway Administration; conducted a Sobriety Check Point on S/B U.S. Rt. 13 in the area of Eden Allen Road.
During the checkpoint which lasted just over an hour, officers made contact with 330 vehicles, and issued one civil citation to a person for possession of marijuana under 10 grams. There were no impaired drivers observed during this operation.
Following the checkpoint, troopers conducted a saturation patrol in and around Somerset County, Maryland. During the saturation patrol troopers stopped 28 vehicles, issued 16 citations, and 20 warnings.
Motorist are reminded during this summer season to drive sober and designate a driver.

Waste of time and money. Go find and arrest the heroin dealers and the junkies breaking into homes to steal to pay the dealers.
ReplyDelete100,000 alcohol related deaths a year. 37 to 40 percent of ALL deadly crashes are alcohol related. That is 8x the number of opium overdoses. BAN ALCOHOL....

Why you all get pissed off with LEO (when it is the drivers who are breaking the law by drinking, doing pot, heroin and speeding) is beyond my comprehension.
6:10 PM: They get pissed off because they are weak minded people without any moral fortitude. It's virtually impossible for them to do the right thing so they have to blame someone when they get caught.

DeleteThese checkpoints are federally funded and required for continued grant funding. It is specific to alcohol enforcement.

ReplyDeleteLEO get OT for these extra duties. No drunks were caught, so no one was breaking DUI laws but plenty of people were detained and searched w/o probable cause. You all want your 2A rights but give up your 4A rights without a fight. Sad.
ReplyDeleteYeah saw this last night, coming back to Salisbury on north 13 around Eden. Very odd place to have this, on south bound 13, about a couple miles past How Sweet It Is, after coming off of bypass. All they're stopping are travelers heading south. Out of 330 vehicles, one citation, which wasn't impaired driving.
