Smash Cash

By Thornton Crowe

Good morning everyone. It has come to my attention that a very interesting arrangement has been instated at City Hall taxpayers should be made aware of as its a blatant misappropriation of your money. Instead of paying to have potholes in the roads fixed, adding lights to troubled intersections and solving the on-going dilemma of our fire department, Mayor Jake Day has a staff of six to do nothing but surf the internet for negative articles about him!

Yes, you read that correctly. Apparently, my sources from City Hall relay, there is a group of six employees dedicated to defusing negative press about the Mayor's initiatives. In an interview with the editor here on Salisbury News, it is one of the reasons why Albero chose to start moderating comments with more scrutiny because this so-called 'staff' writes in comments that either contained fake news to counter the original article or issue personal smears against him and his family. Childish use of time it would seem, these people are doing this on your dime, folks.

When an article was published a few months back about a brutal gang rape here in Salisbury that was only reported on SBYNEWS, Day himself took to Facebook, personally slamming the blog as "fake news" when in fact, Albero had proof of the incident. It seems Day will stop at nothing to keep his low-crime in Salisbury myth alive.

As taxpayers who work hard for your money, is this acceptable use of the City's tax revenue? How is this type of propaganda spinning really helping you, the resident? Is it making your lives better to be paying for this type of fodder?

Granted, having a (one) public relations person is always a given with any office dealing with news but a staff of 6? Even if they were paid a paltry $20K a year plus benefits salary each, that's $120K a year. What else could be done with this money to make your lives better instead of pumping up the Mayor for some future run for a higher office?

It is no secret that since his election, Day has re-organized the staff at City Hall; i.e. letting older vested people go so he could hire young people at a much cheaper rate; however, this goes far beyond acceptability for most voters who elected Day to improve the city not defend it's demise. Your money is being flagrantly wasted to the point of lunacy.

Here's a brilliant suggestion for the Mayor: Perhaps if you would bring forth meaningful initiatives that make your residents' lives better and our town more appealing for people to start small businesses, you wouldn't need a staff to deflect bad press about you! Why? Because there wouldn't be that much bad press in the first place if you were really doing your job properly!

  1. Incidentally, the sewage plant for the City that didn't work when it was erected, still doesn't work. Imagine what $120K a year could do to help remedy that issue?

  2. Day is a bad egg. If I lived in the city I would run. I am in the county, but what happens in the city impacts me: crime, water and sewer rates, etc. if someone who is genuine runs I and others will provide support. No GSC members need apply.

Must have learned this from PRMC.

Face it like them he has no clue how to run a business.

    1. Or Perdue. But Perdue calls them "layoffs".

  4. Why are we funding his next election to a higher office? What's up with that? He can pay for this out of his own pocket. His daddy is rich enough, let him be Joe Kennedy and foot the bill for his son's next step on the government ladder. I'm sick of this corruption in Salisbury. It's getting ridiculous.

  5. Isn't firing people because of age discrimination? I thought we had laws to protect people from being fired for trivial things like this!

  6. Referencing the numerous new hires under Jake Day, I've been told by many sources that these young new employees are seen regularly on their cell phones scrolling through whatever.

This is what you get with young people today. My guess is that Day is trying to come up with a slogan down the road where he can state that you CAN go to school here and find adequate jobs after you graduate and "stay here". All at the expense of long term dedicated older employees. Once again, none of the press is telling you about all of the people who have been let go.

Young people are starting families, while older people have kids out of school and do not need to take off for both mother and father for maternity leave. Older employees have wisdom, experience and patience and they do not spend their days on their cell phones. They actually work.

Day and his followers are fully banking on everything young. It's going to fail in a very big way.

  7. Just how long will it take to clean up this mess once he moves on? You know Day ain't sticking around for long. He's got his eye on Annapolis or DC. Not that he'd actually win either but he's like Ireton. Lives in a fantasy.

  8. $20 says we won't see this report on WBOC, WMDT or the Daily Mistake.

  9. Do you have any of these ugly comments? Maybe you should post them so we can see the handiwork we're paying for.

  10. Any bad press is his fault and his fault alone. Change his stupid ignoramus ways and he'll start getting good press.

All he has done is one dumb thing after another. Headquarters Live for instance. The brilliant minds of Sby News said over and over-will not work but instead of listening and using common sense he went along and sold a tax payer owned building for below value. Now as anyone with 2 working brain cells predicted Headquarters Live fell flat on it's face.

So they can send in all the bad comments they want. All it proves is they themselves have been reduced to nothing but tools.

I say let the comments through so we can laugh at how the mind of the pathetic tool works and then publicly slap them back down into the sewer where they belong because they will never match wits with the brilliant minds of Sby News fans.

  11. I'm glad I live in the county but I love reading about that idiot Jake Day it just gets better and better almost like the Hildabeast.

  12. Yes! Make a post giving us a sampling of how the brainwashed mind of The Pitiful Inadequate Tool works! It will be an education for those of us who can actually think, to see the results of gulping down the propaganda that is rammed down The Tools' throats.

  13. I only briefly caught the news on some Perdue thing and Jake was speaking which made my hand jerk to immediately change the channel.. but before I did his "plug" was that this new venture will bring in more pedestrians and bike riders.

What? Are you friggin kidding? What an idiot.

  14. Jakie Day, the toddler....Are his diapers bought on taxpayer's dime?

  15. In the Salisbury government way of thinking, murders that happen in the west side and other areas of concentrated poverty don't really count for much. If they had it their way they wouldn't be counted at all.

  16. If someone is paying $10/hr ($20K/yr.)for a PR person, they deserve to have bad press.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 944 you got that right. I wouldn't do anything either if I was a 23 year old just out of college making poverty level wages.

  18. Everyone saw the video of Lewis explaining line items of the budget and justifying salaries, why don't we see the same for the City? Shouldn't they be held publicly accountable for every dime they spend? Why does Jake get to run footloose and fancy free with our tax dollars while we work two jobs so he can have people pumping up his image for his next election? What's wrong with you people?

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1145 that's why they have closed sessions. They don't want us to know all the fraud, waste and abuse at City Hall because it would blow Day's big scam job on the community. He'd probably end up in prison.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1210 Day's daddy is president of Perdue so he learned from papa how to get rid of people while stiffing them on pensions and retirement.

  21. Jake, why isn't our community as important to you as your own self-created reputation? If you really cared about it, then do your job and do it well. You really think you'll be elected to a higher office in Maryland if you do a sh&& job here? Look at Ireton's run for Dem ticket during the last primary. Seriously. You need to do a good job for us before we even think about you going bigger.

From what I've seen, you don't understand the fine art of engaging with all press and people. Your office is rude and offensive to callers whenever they bother to answer the phone or return messages. When you were asked about it, you blamed the citizen not the person she was talking to on the phone from your office. Do you really thinking any of us who know about what happened would ever vote for you or not tell other voters about your behavior?

All you do is kiss ass here in Salisbury. You kiss Janet's ass and all your buddies who feed off the corpse of what's left of the Salisbury carcass. You don't serve your community at all.

With such a shameful display of incompetence, do you really think you'll be able to cut it in Annapolis or DC? They'd see through you in a seconds!

  22. I remember that whole thing well. I knew the woman that idiot talked to and Jake now wants to go to higher office? Yeah, right. Dry that one out on the lawn, Junior.

  23. If Jake moves on to Annapolis successfully, I'll move out of Maryland. There's no telling what that peep would do to our community with his tree hugging, Birkenstock wearing crowd would do to this area then.

  24. You should ask the Mayor about the $1 per month rent deal that he extended to that Capital SUP paddle board business operating at the floating dock on the corner of Carol St and S Division St. I guess it is all about who you know and how "in" you are with the downtown groupies.

Look into it and you will quickly discover how slimmy the fact above really is...

  25. Jake Day should instead of his pet things to talk about being more bars, and 3RD Fridays, photo shots, and skate and dog parks. He should be seeing the following done:
    Construction on Main Street Finished
    Fix city pot holes
    abandoned unsightly boarded up houses
    so many foreclosed properties
trash on porches, front, side, back yards including appliances
    junked abandoned vehicles not tagged
houses covered in mold--wires hanging to sidewalks at some houses
businesses in city neglected and their property
need Cold Case Officer for Missing & Homicides
Need Mayors Round Table Back for neighborhood formats
Task force for RAPES, Breakins & Murders actual figures

In short you have been in office long enough to complete this list

  26. Look what he did to the Riverwalk. No railing making it dangerous, nasty with goose poop, ugly fake boardwalk. I hope no one falls in. I won't take my children to anything held near the river because of safety issues.

  27. $10/hr.? You can make that at Walmart by being white and able to speak english.

  28. Where does this crap reference moving on up come from. I LMAO when I here this dude has ambitions of going to Annapolis or anywhere. Remember the last child in that city position ran for a higher spot and got whopped by a guy that didn't champagne. Lol Silly boys...

  29. Jake Day ran to be a figurehead and that's exactly what he is. He's not even at his office most of the time. He never returns calls from commoners and when he talks to them tells them BS that isn't true. No one likes being lied to, Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Exactly how many votes did the unopposed mayoral candidate garner?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Doesn't Jake live in a home owned by his father & mother? No wonder he doesn't care about spending taxpayer's money because he doesn't pay homeowners property taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Would be a great idea to elect people who know how to manage people and resources. Jake Day is a cupcake. He doesn't know anything about business because he's never owned one. Its easy to go work with Daddy or watch from the sidelines but its another to actual make decisions effecting it. Jake hasn't been responsible for anything his whole life. He's been padding his resume with high brow education from fancy places where he probably was low IQ guy in the class.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He might have his eyes on the ladder like Annapolis but his history will follow him, if he is a failure here they will not want him there, don't worry about the eyes just watch the feet , he will never get collected again even for dog catcher, and all respect to dog catchers they actually work.

  34. Day your cavalrymen platoon is calling wanting to know when you help out with some of these deployments. They're tired of pulling the extra weight of people like you. They'd like to see their families too
