A 25-year-old federal contractor is facing charges she leaked a classified National Security Agency document to a news outlet in May.
The charges against Reality Leigh Winner came about an hour after the publication of a story based on an NSA document detailing Russian attempts to hack American voting systems in 2016.
President Trump has been pushing Justice to go after leakers inside the federal government, which he has identified as "the big story" when it comes to Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Winner's arrest could signal the federal government is going to aggressively investigate and prosecute individuals who send classified intelligence to news organizations.
Trump and other Republican allies in Washington have made pursuing leakers one of their top priorities, but Winner is the first to face charges for releasing classified intelligence.
Winner, of Augusta, Ga., is facing charges that she removed classified material from a government facility and mailed it to a news outlet. She was arrested on Saturday and appeared on the charge Monday.

Russians try to hack our polls and other countries what else is new? Kinda what they do. Not sure why she thought it was worth going to federal prison and losing a dream job by exposing it.... so stupid. How about leak Area 51?
ReplyDelete10:10 my thoughts exactly. The left wing rag that she sent it to tried every which way to make it appear damming but couldn't. All the words are there "could" have, "may" have, "might" have, "tried" to type of language. It makes zero sense. Of course democrats who have been dumbed down can't comprehend what they read and will take the piece to mean the Russians were successful.
ReplyDeleteWonder what congressman Adam Schiff will have to say about this? Or will he brush it off to "nothing to see here"?

ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing someone with a top secret clearance would leave such a clear trail of tracks to identify her. Apparently she had recently served in the military and had her security clearance because of that.
I don’t think the “intelligence community” has any secrets because they don’t have adequate controls. Snowden walked off with millions of documents. They gave clearance to another low level gender confused druggie Army private who walked off with a huge trove. And those are the cases we know about. How many people have stolen crap that has either gone undetected or authorities are too embarrassed to admit it publicly (and that info has been sold to Iran, Russia, etc.)
We’re paying 17 intelligence agencies $50 billion a year and what are we getting for it? It’s looking like a jobs program. I’d rather pay them to dig holes and fill them back up rather than pay them to steal classified info.
She's a self hating white snowflake ...hang her high.
