The idea of reparations has been around for a long time. Some activists believe that white Americans should be forced to pay black Americans whose ancestors were slaves. It’s not something that most people take seriously, but HBO host Bill Maherwelcomed a guest who argues for exactly this on his show recently.
Maher recently landed in hot water for using the n-word on his show “Real Time with Bill Maher”, and he’s only just come back on the air. One of his first guests was Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson, who unsurprisingly lectured Maher about his racist slip-up.
“That’s our word, and you can’t have it back,” Dyson told Maher, who agreed. “I did a bad thing,” Maher responded. “For black folks, that word, I don’t care who you are, has caused pain. I’m not here to do that.” The real question, of course, is how Maher still has his job, but apparently celebrities can commit any manner of sins and have them excused, as long as they’re liberals.

Just as soon as there is proof, on both sides, who exactly are descendants of slaves and who exactly are descendants of slave owners will I ever give this crap any consideration. What would really be a hoot would be if Dyson found out that he is the descendant of a black slave owner. How would he feel about paying reparations about something that he had no part in?

They hold themselves back by not getting an education and not getting a job. They don't even try to better themselves. Just whine about poor me and demand freebies. Time for them to grow up.

ReplyDeleteI think its GREAT great for the economy....I would ask all to make me understand how EVERY OTHER MINORITY GROUP whether its the Irish, Polish, Chinese, Koreans or Latinos have far surpassed the Black/African American groups in monetary and or economic value. Democrats have been given this groups billions of dollars to fight poverty in the Black committees, then why is there no economic value in these neighborhoods but beer and liquor stores, pawn shops and check cashing stores.....
ReplyDeleteIf they want all these "horrible" monuments and statues removed because they are such bad reminders of a horrible past, when are they going to get over the slavery thing that they weren't involved with? That's from the past as well and during the same time as some of the other historical things they want to forget.

So are they going to pay reparations to the Ancestors of Indians who's land was taken from them and killed for no reason? I would call that racism against the Indians! Since I have Indian in my blood I guess I can use that as an excuse.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned we have been paying for years. I am from the North and my ancestors fought to free slaves and we have been paying taxes to support housing, food, clothes, utilities and free college. What more do they want?

ReplyDeleteThe idea of reparations infers that there is some type of damage that needs to be repaired- who generally does damage to our society- whites? Don't make me laugh- my grandfolks came over on a boat from Ireland and there were signs that read "No Irish Need Apply" waiting for them. If you were to offer me some type of reparation for past wrongs my grandffolks incurred I'd laugh and think it was a bit insulting- not going to take handouts
