Could honey prevent heart attacks?

A natural sugar found in honey could prevent heart attacks, new research suggests.

The sugar, known as trehalose, activates a protein that causes immune cells to remove fatty plaque from arteries, the study found.

Trehalose was found to reduce the size of plaque in mice by around 30 percent.

Plaque builds up inside the arteries in a condition known as atherosclerosis. This causes the arteries to harden and become less elastic, putting people at risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and even heart attacks.

Trehalose is also found in mushrooms, lobsters and prawns.

  1. Again, a study that shows correlation and the press runs it as fact. Not saying either way, but every time a study is released, ....
I don't remember that sugar in organic chem or nutrition class. Never heard of it. Will need to study more.
I have heard about medical benefits of LOCAL honey for prevention of allergies.

  2. Also have heard about the bennies of LOCAL honey/allergies and have continued to utilize LOCAL honey. Low/behold sans any allergies for years!!! What works for me, doesn't necessary work for others - but glad it does!

Love mushrooms and shell fish too! Hopefully this will continue to assist with blood pressure/heart disease in my elder years. That and walking seem to keep me healthy/wise!

That is until the yearly OC/Worchester county TAXES coming in - which diminishes the wealth....i.e., healthy/wealthy/wise!

    TWO DAYS UNTIL TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I guess this will be known as a "Honey Heart" treatment. Your post misses the important information from the article that says this only works by injections and not by consumption. I'd rather eat it, but I'll take an injection for a healthy heart any day.

  4. Good thing it's also found in mushrooms. We may one day soon have no more honey bees. But as long as we have Congress, we'll have plenty of mushrooms.
