Delaware State Senator Brian Pettyjohn was denied access loading a plane today at the Salisbury, Maryland Airport.
Pettyjohn had a loaded 9 mm weapon in his carry on baggage. He later claimed he had forgotten he had it with him.
The Senator was detained and not allowed to board that flight but Wicomico County Sheriffs eventually released him and allowed him to board a later flight, he was not arrested.
Senator Pettyjohn does have a right to carry license but it is a Federal Offense to not forewarn the airline in advance that you will be carrying a weapon and allowing the airline to approve or deny it.
Airline sources have informed me that there will be charges against the Senator once he returns to the area.
Maryland, it's so hostile. Not only to businesses, but also to sister state Senators. I say give the guy a break, he had a DE carrying permit.
ReplyDeleteIn the people's republic of Maryland this does not matter. hail hogan!
DeleteI know this is difficult, but try working from the facts:
Delete1. This is a federal law.
2. A DE permit is not reciprocal in Maryland. He probably had a Maryland non-resident permit by virtue of his political office.
yeah md residents cant get concealed carry but people from other states can ride around md with one.
ReplyDeleteThat's not accurate at all.
Delete7:39, it's a FEDERAL LAW. This is not a simple matter.
ReplyDeleteIf you claim that you didn't know you had your weapon with you then you should not have the right to carry the weapon. Plane (pun intended) stupid.
ReplyDeleteIf he had a DE ccw it gives him no right to carry it in MD, even though it's not on him he can't transport it loaded. So many flubs on so many levels, wonder if MD will also have anything to say. Always remember ignorance is no excuse.
ReplyDeleteI think No ! Senators ! No no you Cannot plain ! Fly no! Get him no gun fun fly no!! ! You listen sweet Ones nonfat no.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Is this English? Do you have your green card?
DeletePermit or not, you can't carry on a plane. Federal Law.
ReplyDeleteIf everyone were allowed to carry on planes. there would never be such thing as a hijacking.
ReplyDeleteActually, there would be more hijackings. People would get bent out of shape because they are seated next to a fatty, didn't get a whole can of Coke or there was a line for the bathroom. With a gun in their possession, they would instantly become "Billy Badass"
Delete7:47, not true, Maryland does not recognize an CCP from any state. You have to have a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit to carry in this state.
ReplyDelete1,000,000 kudos to the TSA agent who found the weapon.
Sheriff Lewis, why isn't this Senator under the jail? If it was anyone else, they would be. Did Pettyjohn have a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit?
Pettyjohn, you realize the responsibility for carrying a weapon? You have to be totally aware every second that you are in fact, carrying a gun. If it was anyone else who "forgot" the law would not be kind to them. You deserve equal punishment as any one else would get. Being a Senator should not give favorable treatment, and as a Senator you are to always set the example.
Pettyjohn is on WGMD often, and we need to be sure our voices are heard that there will be now double standards or preferential treatment for him.
Next time a drug dealer "forgets" that it's illegal to carry 10 kilos of cocaine in Maryland because he is from New York, lets see how lenient Mike Lewis is. Same thing.
DeleteLet go for a federal offense. Just a good ole boy eh
ReplyDelete9:36 riddle me this, what happens when you depressurize the cabin of an airplane? I'm guessing you've never left the shore, no offense but that is just a stupid comment
ReplyDeleteWow 936. That has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. I'll be damned if I let some idiot like you blow a hole through the plane. It was checked baggage. Which means under the plane. Out of the cabin. Still a felony.
ReplyDeleteYeah cause you'd bring the plane down you idiot you can't shoot in a plane
ReplyDeleteAll this support for gun rights and the NRA and it seems that half the commenters can't even agree on what the current laws are. Not blaming you. I think they are intentionally vague and contradictory so that arrest and confiscation are easier.
ReplyDeleteHe is a typical example of what we have as politicians these days. Stupid is - stupid does. What a clown! He should have been charged when it happened!
ReplyDelete11:16 and 11:25. You are wrong. Rapid decompression will not occur. The hole will be too small and the structure of the plane would still be strong enough to not tear away. Hit a window, probably not, but hit wires or control cables, that could be a more critical issue. But a rapid D. no, not with a bullet.
ReplyDeleteMyth busters episode number 10 and 38.....
DeleteBUSTED!!!
The only way they could achieve rapid decompression was to put explosives around a window.
So what, nothing will happen, becasue he is a senator...
ReplyDeleteRemember folks, there are two sets of laws, laws for the people who own you, I.e. the senators, who have no laws and you the slave where all laws apply to you, even stupid or made up ones...
Thanks 708 for the reminder...my rapid decompression daily session is fast approaching!!
ReplyDelete(snicker snicker)
Kudo's for TSA doing their jobs!
This happened about a year or so back. A NASA employee from VA forgot too. Gun was taken and nothing else, as best the public knows. No other public information, not even the person's name was given.
ReplyDelete11:25 reread the article. "in his carry on baggage."
ReplyDeleteAll good guys should carry weapons, the bad dudes carry.
ReplyDeleteA part of me says this was on purpose to get news coverage of a Senator "needing" to be armed for his protection. Everyone in DC wants to have concealed carry permits, but just like this shows they can not handle that responsibility.
ReplyDeleteHe's getting charged. As he should be.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see how far it goes, some lenient, buddy, buddy judge will probably give him a slap on the wrist and that will be it. This would be the one time to have a good liberal anti-gun judge to screw the living day lights out of Pettyjohn.
Anyway, it will be interesting if there is going to be a double standard.
Cool.
ReplyDeleteThe law matters was handled correctly, doesn't matter Senator or not just thought he was special--NOT.
ReplyDeleteThey got charges the same day, just like they would have for anyone else. Check MD case search you crack reporter. Nobody has heard of this guy. Special treatment? Why?
ReplyDelete4:55, I said he was later charged in my original article. The only reason he was charged, (because Lewis wanted to give him a free pass) was because the Airport Director was furious and demanded the LAW be followed. That being said, he should have been arrested on the spot, period. It is a Federal Offense, I don't care who you are.
ReplyDeleteTreat him like anyone else would be treated. Forgetting to remove it is a dumb excuse! No friend of the Sheriff shit should be allowed here!
ReplyDeleteLock him up!
ReplyDeleteHe most likely had intentions of using it while on the plane knowing him.
ReplyDeleteJust like we expected. He gets probation. Anyone else would be sitting in jail.
