First picture is of the Wicomico County Mobile Command Unit used during emergencies. Second: picture of airport fire truck(arff). Third: child being able to see first hand what it feels like behind the wheel. Fourth: A few of many cars in car show. Fifth: line for pancake breakfast.
Too bad the wind was gusty - I would have like to have flown in there for breakfast!
Looks like a good time was had by all!
From what I'm hearing, the airport is getting rid of all of it's General Aviation Hangars (Massey bought a couple) and will be concentrating on commercial aviation! contributing to the downfall of another sector of this industry!
A Great event and nice turnout on an especially windy day. Everything seemed very organized and lots of different planes, classic cars, good music, and appreciated the golfcarts taking people from one end of the event to the other. UMES students were especially helpful and very professional. I believe this was their first year putting this together and I must admit it was a good turnout, especially families with kids in attendance. We need more events like this around Salisbury that are family friendly - kudos to the new airport manager and all who were involved in getting this event together and "off the ground".
SBY Airport is NOT getting rid of all of its general-aviation hangars. It is planning to remove only the oldest rows of T-hangars and will replace them with new hangars on the S.W. area. The airport also plans to build a huge new general-aviation hangar along Airport Road, south of the Piedmont Hangars.
SBY Airport is thoroughly committed to increasing general-aviation activity.
It was truly a well organized event with lots of volunteers on hand!
ReplyDeleteWith this and Paws For A Cause, three miles away, this was a winner Saturday outing for our kids and their friends we towed along.

The downtown library event was fun, too, although not well advertised. They need to get an handle on that.
ReplyDeleteLike that fire truck

Impressed with the young people volunteering! CIvil Air Patrol was well represented and had good attitudes.
ReplyDeleteWhat was at the library? I am always looking for activities that are inside and away from UV rays in the summer.
