Brief, Full Closure Required May 11 to Initiate Traffic Shift
(May 2, 2017) – With the busy summer travel season just around the corner, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will be shifting the US 13/US 50 (Salisbury Bypass) traffic back to the regular two-lane, two-way configuration beginning May 10. The shift will occur in two stages:
A) During the overnight hours of May 10-11 SHA will remove the bidirectional traffic pattern north of US 50 (Ocean Gateway). The resulting pattern will be one lane in each direction on the inner and outer Bypass loops. This work will require a full closure of the Salisbury Bypass Thursday morning, May 11, from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. All northbound traffic must exit the Bypass at MD 12 (Snow Hill Road) and southbound traffic must exit at US 50. Motorists should plan alternate routes for travel during these hours.
B) Crews will then complete median work and shift traffic back to the regular pattern, two lanes in each direction, no later than Wednesday, May 24, weather permitting.
The bidirectional pattern south of US 50 will remain in place through early summer for completion of bridge repairs at MD 350 (Mount Hermon Road) and Parker Pond. Motorists are encouraged to plan extra travel time during construction.
Click here for information about the overall $28 million project to rehabilitate 11 bridges on the Salisbury Bypass. The entire project will be completed by summer 2018.
Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.

This horrible traffic pattern will make traffic unbearable starting very soon. The one way portion will back traffic up way past the Rt. 50 exits and will undoubtedly be responsible for many accidents. I guess nobody at SHA has ever traveled this road during the summer time.....either that or they just don't give two craps.

ReplyDeleteThe traffic pattern of 2 lanes in each direction will be back before the end of the month.
it will back up because no one knows how to take their time and take their turn. Refusing to let others merge is what causes backups.
ReplyDeletewow, all of the bridges fixed and main street has been torn up since October 2016 with no end in sight!
ReplyDeleteWow. Just wow! Can't believe that some people are so uneducated that they are unable to read a paragraph and understand the information being expressed.
ReplyDeletePretty easy to figure out why this area is in such bad shape and has little hope of ever getting better.
there will still be single lanes south of 50.
ReplyDeleteit will back up past 50
having this closed during the season is not the brightest idea

ReplyDeleteFor you people that said we can't read...the above was copied from the posting. Early summer.....which based on todays condition will be a stretch to complete.....and when the two lanes to one backs up way passed Rt. 50 you have a mess. I can envision traffic backups to at least Rt. 13 or beyond
2:33 The problem with letting people merge is people like you riding the left lane all the way and then trying to merge at the last minute because you think your getting ahead of people. Next time if the sign says left lane closed ahead be smart and start getting over
ReplyDeleteAmen I hate that.

People like me? You have an overactive imagination AND are one of the ones who don't know how to merge.
Drivers are SUPPOSED to utilize BOTH lanes up to the MERGE POINT. Blocking people from doing so only moves the merge point further back. "People like you" only think you are keeping ahead of people but in reality are contributing to the stop and go traffic, backups and accidents that result from this type of driving.
Stop riding two feet from the cars bumper in front of you so others can't merge, ( yes, that means actually allowing someone to get ahead of you, HORRORS), and everyone can continue down the highway at a reduced but steady speed.
Leave your ego home and work together and it will be a much smoother ride for everyone.

And that's where some road rage starts. People who don't know how to drive correctly or know the rules of the road get angry at the ones who do and are following the law. Type "how to correctly zipper merge" in your search bar 432 and learn something. But it's not just you, it's a lot of drivers who don't know the rules for merging.
Or which side of an intersection to stay on when making a left or u turn. Or think people on a highway have to move over for them when they enter from a ramp. Or think it's a 3 foot spacing rule instead of a 3 second spacing rule.
Maybe you and others were taught wrong or just developed bad habits over the years but either way you are wrong. I hope this helps.

Apparently, you cannot make a comment without insulting someone.
Corman Construction, one of the hand full of contractors that does work for various state departments of transportation that knows how to get it done.

And those brilliant highway construction planners at the SHA have decided to tear up and repave Rt 50 business through town AT THE SAME TIME! West of Salisbury to South of Salisbury will have one way traffic and single lane delays no matter how you try to go. Seems they could have scheduled the jobs so that one was completed and re-routed before starting the other. Too hard for those high paid engineers to figure out?
