County Executive Bob Culver is pleased to announce the appointment of Dawn Mitchell Parks as Acting Director of Finance.
Dawn is a twelve year veteran in Wicomico County beginning in 2005 as Financial Systems Administrator. In 2012-2015 she served as Assistant Director of finance for operations. She served as Acting Finance Director during the interim in 2015. Since November 2015, Dawn has been the Systems Project Manager.
Dawn has lots of first-hand experience in Wicomico County's Finance Department that will fit well with her appointment.
Ok...she has worked there. Big deal. Does she have an Accounting degree? Is she a CPA? Does she have an advanced degree? What other experience does she have? This announcement is as lame as the video from last week. Small wonder they have problems.
ReplyDeleteNote she's an "acting" director meaning she's not a permanent replacement. Lewis's firing was not some big conspiracy plot by Culver to overthrow her unlike some of the stupid comments over the weekend. This other person was brought on probably to finish out the budget season work and give them time to find a suitable replacement.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the citizens should be demanding that the county bring in experienced people with no connection to the county or area. Nothing ever changes because people that are already indoctrinated the corrupt system was move up. FYI, not a personal attack on Parks. Don't know her. Just seems like the bosses keep getting fired and they just promote the person that was trained/mentored/worked under the terminated employee.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 612. We need to have a real CPA in that position who has years of experience unrelated to anyone in this area. You guys at the county might want to pony up some bucks to get a real qualified person in the position instead of these locals who could possess inside 'deals' with local businesses and community. An outside person or firm would be much better for the county. Capital Idea, 612.

ReplyDeleteWhy not spring the money for a big 8 firm to oversee the budget and run a yearly audit? Would make a lot more sense than keeping a finance director on staff, not to mention much cheaper in the long run.
ReplyDeletePeople have you not learned anything from your local government and its hiring practices?? Case in point the city administrator position. True prerequisite experience and degrees don't matter, and "acting" definitely meant we want this person as the permanent candidate. It will take relentless rebuttal and inevitability the unmasking of the candidate to actually not be able to perform the positions daily business without outside help. Good old Salisbury wicomico county politics
ReplyDeleteIt would be good for Culver to start running Wicomico county government like a real business instead of this BS like keeping on dead weight employees who keep screwing up. An accounting firm could easily do the bookkeeping and a yearly audit. They do it for business, why not do it for government, too. If Trump does get tax reform through, CPAs will need a new stream of income. It would be a win-win for all concerned.
ReplyDeleteBet a CPA firm wouldn't overlook three decades of the City not paying their rent to the county in some agreement. They would've been on top of that the first month the city fell in default.
ReplyDeleteA CPA firm would be much better for managing the finances for the county. Is Lewis even a CPA? Probably not, so it's a good thing she's out. Now they have to let that other old guy go who was talking on the video.
ReplyDeleteGood Lord, if you people can't tell where most of these comments came from, well, you're very simple minded. Can you say disgruntled!
ReplyDeleteI'm 6:12 and not connected to anyone in local politics. Retired and currently in another state. How am I disgruntled?
ReplyDeleteJoe, I'm not disgruntled either. I think a CPA firm would be a better way to go. They have a lot more culpability because they're professionals. They also care more about their work. No, I'm not a CPA but I know a ton of them. They're good, honest people. They don't screw around with money.
ReplyDeleteOutsource and cut the department like what was done with ed baker and crew.
ReplyDeleteLocal yahoos who aren't CPAs can't do this job. It takes a pro. Why not have a CPA firm preferably a national one do the numbers for the county? Nothing disgruntled in that at all. That's just good business.
ReplyDelete6:35 runni g a government like a business is the reason the leeches keep digging in our wallets! The only reason they stay afloat is through tax revenue, and the end goal is to perpetuate the growth of revenue! Dont drink the kool aid, this isnt particular to here locally this is every state/county across the country. Wake up! I understand being fiscally responsible but run like a busines oh no no no. They are our employees they exist becasue of us, dont EVER think otherwise
ReplyDeleteThey think anything but. Every last one of them looks at it as what we can do for them. Just look at the attitude encountered in every interaction
DeleteI'm sure that there is someone in Wicomico County government who already has both the education and the skill set to run multiple departments. Taking on Finance would be a piece of cake right?
