Looks like they will eventually need to put in an overhead bridge or stop light there.
ReplyDeleteStop light scheduled. Significantly more accidents at Rt 50 intersections with lights than here. The one here will give drivers another option to be stupid and daring.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a stop light will be the answer. Drivers are already not seeing a blinking red light, a sign that says look again, and they not alerted to the previous two after running over rumble strips. I really don't think a non flashing red light will be any help. Too many folks are distracted by their phones, and in too big of a hurry to wait before pulling into traffic from the center median.

Only on the Eastern Shore do they place Red lights on a High Way....shows you the incest here that has caused brain damage of those who say a light needed...instead of just closing the cross over
DeletePraying for the families. A Wicomico county roads truck took the worst. Haven't seen a pick-up truck that messed up in a long time. Looked like a vehicle pulled in front of him. This can be avoided, if people just pay attention. Has nothing to do with the intersection.

DeleteAgree. Close it since the people using it have proven that they are incapable crossing in a safe manner. Hardly ever any accidents at 50 and Old Railroad Rd. just past Hebron.

ReplyDeleteThere is a merge lane and traffic on 50 are supposed to have headlights on so the idiots crossing over can see them better. Hardly anyone uses headlights, not that I am blaming them. Those crossing from east bound onto 60 foot rd just do not pay attention or think they can cross before the cars coming at them at 60 mph! The light is just going to make traffic worse on Main St Ext.

ReplyDeleteIt is the decision of the STATE on what is put there not the local people. The cheapest option is to put up a light. The state only wants to keep the people going to OC safe. What needs to be done is fly overs put at some of these intersections instead of lights. If the intersection doesn't have a fly over they can take Old Ocean City Road to an intersection that does have one.
the stop light is about a year out or less, i reviewed the plans today, BUT an OVERPASS is what they need like 301 and the road that takes you to Centreville.
ReplyDeleteJust put a gas station / store on the eastbound side. Problem solved. Everybody wants to sensibly fill up their tanks and grab a good home grilled samich before hitting Money Rape Central.
ReplyDeleteUse logic, folks. There is nothing on the eastbound side past what, Cambridge???? JT's offers great road food and reasonable gas prices and it's a favorite last chance stop before OC.

I had something similar happen to me about a month back with a dump truck with a trailer near south walmart. I think it was a county dump. Young guy driving of course. Barely looked 18yoa.

They need merge lanes the current design makes drivers take chances when they get impatient.
