Trump reassures Canada, Mexico he's not pulling out of NAFTA

President Trump informed Mexican President Pena Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday afternoon that he will not pull the U.S. from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) despite reports earlier in the day that he had considered doing so.

Trump's separate conversations with both North American leaders were "pleasant and productive," the White House said in a statement issued late Wednesday.

The three leaders agreed to proceed quickly with renegotiation plans as the initial review process comes to a close.

  1. No need to pull out if they play fair.

  2. Then he has already broken one of his promises. My question is, who blackmailed you? NAFTA and all of the other "free trade" deals have ruined this nation and have destroyed the middle class. A lot of the problems we are experiencing in this country are tied to these free trade deals that started in the nineties when the Clinton's were in office. I still like Trump and voted for him, but I am disappointed with this decision. NAFTA does not help the American worker.

  3. Manufacturing jobs actually increased after NAFTA went into effect. The decline began in 2001 when China joined the WTO.

Tell that to all the Manufacturing workers at Airpax who lost their jobs in the nineties due to NAFTA. Or many of the other manufacturing facilities that either closed down or outsourced the work. China certainly hurt us, but that was all a part of that other Treaty call GATT. Your comment is BS!

  7. 3:41 Do some research rather than basing your incorrect beliefs on a local company in a non significant part of the country. BTW, GATT was formed in 1947. Nice try with alternative facts.

  9. 6:47, you are correct, but the Treaty was revised on January 1, 1995 to the world trade organization. I remember one of the revision sponsors was former senator Bob Dole. All the trade deals have cost us dearly with lost jobs and a lost standard of living for most Americans. Airpax employed in Cambridge over 3000 plus employees at one time. Was a major employer. Owned by North American Phillips corporation. Phillips owned many companies. All broken up and sold into lots. It was not a non Significant company.

We had manufacturing plants all over the U.S. One facility was in Frederick MD. My beliefs are solid. Your the one who needs to get your facts straight.

I'll bet you were one of those arrogant corporate a holes with a golden parachute from the corporation helping to consolidate the closing of these plants. A regular hatchet man! A regular legend in your own mind!
