A teenager has found a 7.44 carat diamond at a state park in southwest Arkansas.
Kalel Langford was visiting Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro when he found the rock by a stream on Saturday.
The 14-year-old was in town with his parents for a baseball tournament when he found the diamond, which has been registered as the seventh largest found in the park since it was established in 1972.
An 8.52-carat diamond that was found in the same park in 2015 was estimated to be sold for $1 million last month, but the park hasn't given an estimate for Kalel's diamond, which is only one carat smaller.

Duh, that's why it's called Crater of Diamonds. If he had found a banana tree there THAT would have been unusual!
ReplyDeleteThe diamond is brown in color. Years ago that would hev only been suitable as a industrial diamond, but De beers and the jewelry chains have been marketing them as "Chocolate" diamonds to naive customers
ReplyDeleteWhat's the big deal with the diamond, anyway? It's a sparkly rock whose worth is arbitrarily determined by people in the business. It ranks at the top for expensive things without a practical use (unless you count bait as a use).
