This afternoon the Volunteers who had put in their two week notice met with the County Council today to deliver just what they can do for the County since they were abruptly removed from the City's Station 1.
Chief Hoppes and several Paid Firefighters (on the clock) in uniform showed up at today's meeting uninvited and spoke at the end in public comments. Again, "Public Comments".
It is against the City Charter for Paid Firefighters to attend these meetings in uniform and they need to be reprimanded. Who will ever forget Larry Dodd showing up at a City Council Meeting, (not in uniform) as a City Taxpayer speaking out at a formal meeting and Barrie Tilghman tearing him apart. Ultimately Mr. Dodd was let go by the SFD, hence what we always talk about when it comes to RETALIATION.
Nevertheless, the Volunteers showed the County Council they have FORTY Volunteers already signed up, five more in holding and three applications in hand. Hoppes once again LIED about how they have 60+ Volunteers on their roster and frankly Folks, yes, they may be on their roster but only about 15 are active throughout the entire City. Heck, I think they claim around 90 Volunteers but it's a load of crap.
While Jake Day and Jim Ireton continue with their "nuclear option" between the City & County, the County would be wise to show their full support for this new Station and all Volunteers. We're talking about 48 FREE Volunteers willing to serve and save the taxpayers millions of dollars. Especially with Mayor Day playing hard ball with the County.
I must have the DTs. I see a giant pink elephant
ReplyDeleteWhen propery burns then politicians will burn with them.
ReplyDeleteJake and John are friends and well doesn't John have a ton of rentals in the city . This seems to be a conflict of interest and he should not be allowed to make a finial decision on this matter . The county should support these individuals in full force. The city officials and employees on duty should not had a word in that meeting . I pay county taxes and I can assure u I will no longer vote for either of them ever. Just to think I am friends with John and he could allow these individuals to be treated like this in such manner and then have a concern of funding them where they have been funded for years . They have been doing this job for year and I'm sure they know what there capable of doing . They need to open this station and watch progress . Shame on the county council.
ReplyDeleteI'm ashamed to work for this county . To pretty much show disrespect for the volunteers was awful . I'll be looking for a different administration job .
ReplyDeleteBob Culver needs to do his job and see that these volunteers have a station .
ReplyDeleteCan I ask how will this save money? Salisbury already has the equipment, building, and staffing. Now Station 1 corporation will have to by land, build a building, buy all equipment, and hire EMS personnel. This is going to cost millions. Guess who will be paying for this? County taxpayers will, the money has to come from somewhere. Not a savings.
ReplyDelete3:55, Sit tight and I will explain in another Post that needs to go up. Trust me, it will save the County a ton of money.
ReplyDeleteThe comments at the end were all bogus. The analogies were garbage comparisons and biased.
ReplyDeleteSFD should be ashamed of the comments made from their employee's and now you get to see their vile opinions of most volunteers.
So if I choose to have the volunteers only service my house then I would assume they would and would have to be funded by the county is that correct .
ReplyDeleteYou can't choose who responds, each department has their own district. That being said it is time for the county to respond in the county and the city in the city.
DeleteJohn cannon will not support these volunteers and should not be allowed to make the decision if they should be funded . This company has county territory so they should be funded . I guess it's ok to pay a paid crew to service the county residents. Where is Willards and Allen and Fruitland and the others stations funding to provide a paid crew to run there calls . Do your job county . Bob Culver should be doing something .
ReplyDeleteWhy dose the county allow these city bozos continue to run all over the county . Volunteers deserve a house and the county needs to stop all funding to the city. This county council will be replaced for sure . Watch they will be asking for support and everybody should remember what they will be doing to these volunteers.
ReplyDelete"Chief Hoppes??"
ReplyDeleteYou call him Chief? That guy wouldn't make a pimple on a real fire chief's a$$!
I am ashamed to say I live in Salisbury----the
ReplyDeletesooner I can leave , the better!!!
You go Volunteers !!!! Good Luck to you!!
Were you to the meeting Joe. If not than you are repeating one side of second hand info.
ReplyDeleteThe firehouses need to be County run as a single entity or the duplication of services we now suffer under with the police dilemma will always be a problem. Station 1 volunteers could virtually move across the street or down the block and be in the County the way our borders, (not boarders, please) are lined out, and this would make no sense at all except to further promote the hardheadedness of the current fire "Chiefs". City politics has proven time and again to be a huge wrench in the works, and that situation is duplicated in the police departments.
ReplyDeleteIt's time these messes become history. Somewhere out there is a county full of cities that has functional Fire and Police departments we could look to for a model.
That fat guy in the pink shirt makes Hoppes look like an Ethiopian.
ReplyDeleteJohn Cannon is a pos and needs to be kicked off the council What the hell is wrong with you citizens in the county ?
ReplyDeleteyup cannon needs to be booted off the council he is a self serving piece of crap.

What about the garage right behind Station 16 one evening when the paid paramedics were in the firehouse eating dinner. Did you forget about that one burning to the ground?
What about the house on the corner of Church and Truitt Streets that burnt to the ground with 3 stations staffed with career guys?
What about the house that burned down at Cherry Way and Cedar Way the other night. What about the drunk "Deputy Chief" showed up to the scene and once incident commander sounded clueless. Which is unusual for him by the way.

Shame on the County Council? What did they do wrong? You must have watched a different meeting than we did.

Who disrespected the volunteers and how? The meeting today had nothing to do with the county council making any decisions. THAT comes from the County Executives office. Learn the law before you run your mouth.

They have a station. It's at the corner of Shcumacher and Beaglin Park Drive. Your beef is with Jake Day and Rick Hoppes.

They were clearly attacks on the station 1 volunteers. They should have gotten up there and defended the lies by the paid firemen.

That would be a wrong assumption.
Let them use the nuclear option and see how much blows back on them. Culver shouldn't let those jerks have anything to do with the County. Look how they've destroyed the city. Are you going to be leader or not Bob?

Funny I don't recall a house "burning to the ground" on Church and Truitt Street....Pretty sure that was the icing on the cake, when the career staff had to call for every outside agency to come assist, due to the lack of volunteer participation. If I recall this fire, station 2 did not respond at all and believe that station 1 responded with a "Truck Company", that had zero qualified personnel on it. I just rode by the house in question, and yep! its still standing and being remodeled..
The fire behind fire station 16, lets do a little fire homework here for you great armchair quarterback...Large commercial building with 2 dumptrucks, multiple vehicles, highly flammable liquids, large volumes of "filed paperwork" and a "explosion" in the back of the shop, in which the occupant narrowly made an escape. Look at the pictures of the progression of said fire and you'd understand there was no saving that place.. The on duty crews were enroute before that fire was ever dispatched, due to the smoke being seen by those attending the fire training class at station 16 that night (something I know you don't know anything about).
Why don't we talk about things such as why the wonderful volunteers that have decided to leave the city would not make entry into a burning home on S. Division Street last year. How about the fire off of Dykes Road that they couldn't manage a simple kitchen fire. How about how they failed to respond on a Sunday afternoon to a fatal fire 2 blocks from their station. How about at the time A/C Polidore having the god forsaken "duty crew" cover their calls all weekend because they had five members out of town riding four wheelers and "couldn't respond to their calls"....Lets talk about these clowns and how they want to open their own "business", when they cant handle what they have now...
So the station 1 volunteers have left and the paid pansies are still on here bitching and moaning. Seems you just can't satisfy them. They got what they wanted. The volunteers are gone. So why are they still complaining?
ReplyDeleteCan't miss the EBT Blogger in that picture, what a target, Ray Charles couldn't miss that ....
ReplyDeleteWho is that big fat slob in the picture.
ReplyDeleteFYI, I have tried numerous times to post positive things on that other blog in favor of the Station 1 volunteers and he keeps censoring the posts. I've heard he is doing the same with other positive comments as well.
ReplyDeleteJoe correct me if I'm wrong but I hear the chief association has to approve the territory for station 1 . I thought this has already been done or are they begin made to jump obstacles because the city dosent want to give the territory up . This has caused alot of negatively on them which half has been lies. Why can't these little steps be expedited and stop allowing the city to damage them . I'm a proud county volunteer firefighter and I support this station . Good luck
