Now might be a good time to check if your family is up to date on vaccines. After 2016 showed the highest number of mumps cases in a decade, there have already been more than 1,000 cases reported across the United States in 2017.
USA Today reports that from January 1 through March 4, there have been 1,242 reported cases of mumps. There have been upticks in cases in Washington state, Illinois, and Oklahoma, though some of the cases are holdovers from the end of 2016. Last year, there were 5,311 cases of mumps, which was the highest number in 10 years.
Usually, cases of mumps can go up or down depending on the year, but health officials say they're worried about the high number of cases so early in the year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that mumps outbreaks can happen at any time of the year, but risk factors include being in a crowded environment like a sports event, dorm, or classroom, or exchanging saliva through kissing or sharing utensils.

Illegals bring in disease which is why we need border walls.
ReplyDeleteLet that be a lesson to you for sharing your saliva.
ReplyDeleteIllegals may indeed be a small factor. Another is the crazy anti-vaccine people- so paranoid that they won't even do the best for their own children.
ReplyDeletethis crazy anti-vaccine person wonders if the CDC needs to boost receipts for the Vaccine Court - $0.75/vaccine goes to fund the super secret vaccine injury court.
ReplyDelete12:52 PM or this could just be big pharma trying to sell more drugs, eh? Gotta make some money off our overstock before we have to throw it out. Just like they do with the flu vaccine.
ReplyDelete1:39 these cases are documented. The rise is likely due to parents refusing to vaccinate their children due to misinformation or neglecting to vaccinate their children at all due to ignorance. Illegals without vaccinations could surely cause a case but an outbreak is unlikely.

ReplyDeleteWow pushing vaccines much? Nooo thank you. I'm educated. Not just opinionated.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is... it's the mumps it goes away on its own. Not deadly... What the hell would I want poison directly injected into my blood stream.. over a cold. Weird
ReplyDeleteAnti-vaccers. Not a problem with me.. thin the heard... stop the stupid from breeding.
