Miller: Immigration Bill Won't Pass Senate

Senate President Mike Miller told reporters today that a bill that restricts how much assistance local police can give federal immigration agents will not make it out of the Senate in its current form.

The “Maryland Trust Act” was approved last week by the House of Delegates.

“In terms of hampering law enforcement, in terms of hampering the judicial system, Maryland is not going to become a sanctuary state,” Miller said today. “The bill as it passed the House is not going to pass the Senate.”

Miller said it is up to the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee to decide whether to change this bill.

The chairman of the committee, Sen. Bobby Zirkin says the Senators on the committee have concerns about the bill, and the panel may consider amendments. However he said a vote is not scheduled.

  4. Appears they are coming to their senses. What sickens me is MD kneejerk reactions to any leftwing liberial unamerican ideal that comes along. Every law they empose. Is a slap in the face to exsisting law, bill of rights and the constitilution.

  7. No they are not coming to their senses. The Mont Co school rape by 2 illegals threw them for a loop so they had to stop this in it's tracks for the moment. Democrats are filthy, immoral, dishonest people don't let them fool you. What they did was weigh the pros and the cons and figured with the rape high on people's minds to let it go-for awhile. They need the votes of the immigrant population who benefit from the illegals since no decent person would ever vote democrat so they will bring this back up.

  8. It was a 'feel good' moment for the DemocratSocialist reps. They got to go on record as voting for Sanctuary. But unless the Senate President chooses to allow a vote it's over for this session. Political theater!
