Showell and Buckingham Elem. account for approx. 75 percent of infestations
Check your child’s backpack — if there’s a document entitled “Head Lice: A Real Head Scratcher,” someone in the class has been diagnosed with a case of Pediculosis Capitis, which means it’s possible that your child has them too.
Since schools returned to session on Jan. 3, 26 cases of head lice have been reported, according to spokeswoman Carrie Sterrs.
The infestations have been mostly contained to the elementary schools, with 11 cases reported at Showell Elementary School, eight at Buckingham Elementary, three at Snow Hill Elementary, three at Pocomoke Elementary and a single case at Stephen Decatur Middle School, Sterrs said.
“When a child is identified as having lice, the entire class is then checked as a preventative measure,” Sterrs said. “Should multiple students be identified as having lice within the same class, a letter is sent home to the parents of the affected class.”

Even if only one child in the classroom shouldn't the parents get a notice? Thats how you stop the contamination!!!!!

I think 10:44 is saying the notice should be more forthcoming like, your child may or has been exposed to lice, please check them
Delete1121, notice should have gone out county wide, so EVERYONE would be aware of the situation. Many kids have friends in other schools, etc. Its a courtesy that needs to be explored MORE. Especially with the ease of technology today.
ReplyDeleteHappy TGIF!!!
its trumps fault
ReplyDeleteThe notification should not stop with the parents of the classmates, but should extend to the busmate parents, as well. Unless the children are confined to the classroom all day, then the whole school's parents should be notified.
ReplyDeleteThose sharing buses, after school programs, including siblings' classes, buses and programs, etc., should also be on notice.
ReplyDeleteInternet says mouthwash and vinegar get to washing them heads
ReplyDeleteWicomico County schools allow students to attend with nits. Chipman nurse says it's the county policy that while a student cannot attend with lice he/she can return if they only have nits. Seriously nits are eggs waiting to hatch! Do you really think they will wait until the student returns home.
