WBOC Abuses Woman Who Was Raped

Yesterday afternoon WBOC was discussing the hostage situation while bringing up past history at the Detention Center.

One of the things they brought up was the woman who had been raped at the facility, calling her out BY NAME. They went on to say that they had made attempts to contact her, (by name) to get her view of the current situation but she did not respond to their calls.

We're talking about a woman who had been horribly raped about 14 years ago and WBOC desperately trying to create news by abusing a woman, (by name) who clearly wanted nothing to do with WBOC.

I'm sorry Folks but this is about as abusive as it gets. To think they refuse to respect her experience and feelings, this was NOT worthy of bringing up again, especially by calling her out by name.

I can't wait to hear your response to what they did.

    1. FOX NEWS didn't show any respect or The Daily Times, most news on the situation at JTVCC inappropriately disclosed the ladies name. Savage and cruel move and shame on them all!! No one had the right to blast her unfortunate case from 2004!No one who has survived such a nightmare wants to be reminded of it or have it all over the media years later or EVER!!

  14. hope you were watching them this morning. I couldnt count the times they repeated " an unconfirmed source told us that the hostage situation is over". They even had a person there and they were relying on a Philadelphia station to get the news.

  15. My GOD how could possibly do that to that poor woman and her family? WBOC needs to be told by everybody exactly what they are, No longer relevant POS who should close up and go away if that reporter is not fired. Women have a special talent for raising hell when they feel they are being abused and I hope they use it.

  16. Disgusting beyond all decency.

  17. Look, to those of you claiming WBOC saw something on her Facebook page and that's why they said something, WRONG! They clearly stated they reached out to her and she did not return their requests, yet they went ahead and put it out there anyway.

ANYONE with half a conscience would have refrained from ever taking the RISK to expose someone FOURTEEN YEARS LATER.

I have watched them knock on the doors of family members who just experienced a death. You have never seen anything of the sort here on Salisbury News.

They screwed up in a big way and they know it. They CAN'T tell you how bad crime is here in Salisbury but they will expose a woman's name, (without permission) who had been raped 14 years ago. Saying a woman had been raped there years ago is one thing but to call her out by name, DISGUSTING!

  18. To bring this horrific crime up after this long and actually name the victim is a despicable act, a reminder not needed by anyone, especially the victim and her family. There is no valid excuse - it's not news, it's not relevant to the current situation, and it's an assault on everyone's sensibilities.

  19. Let me shut the rest of you employees at WBOC up. IF you had seen something posted elsewhere, you would have to site your source. You are trying to CYA after the fact. The fact remains, she refused to respond to you and you called her out by name. You people get upset when we mention multiple people arrested from WBOC for DUI's, yet you'll call a woman out 14 years later for a rape, go figure. OWN IT, you screwed up and owe this woman an apology in a big way.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 8:52 you are an idiot. "Man up and woman up"???? That woman was raped repeatedly. If it were one of your family members would her name broadcasted again? As another reminder to anyone that actually put it out of their mind or hadn't heard? It was unnecessary to use her name.

This mouthing off is disappointing from the local station. It doesn't even have anything to do with yesterdays event. Poor, poor taste.

  23. 8:52 AM - There's a special place for you somewhere. It's obvious that you have never been sexually assaulted, and have no idea of the devastation that it causes. Tearing the wounds open again after fourteen years for no reason other than to promote TV viewership was a terrible choice, one for which there can be no adequate apology.

  24. Wboc and wmdt both are nothing more but an addition to the problem here on the good ole eastern shore. Until they start focusing on the real news the corruption in our counties, the stories that need to be reported no matter if it's bad publicity on the campus the hospital our any county branch. I think they should be shut down if not by the county and state then by the community. We need to learn to stand up for us for each other and for change. nothing will stop and or change until we demand and make a change ourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  25. if that had occurred to steve hammonds wife would her name have been broadcasted?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let me say this to all of you, including the nay sayers.

Over the next few days Salisbury News will be delivering original news articles that will not only blow away locals, it will expose massive corruption by our state wide elected officials.

What we do here is deliver the hard core, factual and documents information you will not see in your state wide Main Stream Media.

These articles will flat out PROVE WBOC, WMDT, Independent and the Daily Times do not and will not expose vital information to local taxpayers.

On the local level, I am simply awaiting one more piece of confirmation and then all hell will break loose in Salisbury and Wicomico County. Trust me, this is really bad. Perhaps as bad as when I exposed the Waste Water Treatment Plant in the past.

Yesterday WBOC proved they are desperate. It was Salisbury News who broke this original situation in Delaware. There was never ANY NEED to bring up a past rape. WBOC can easily see our daily numbers and they know for a FACT that SBYNews continues to GROW. They know we are getting ready to start our very own broadcast and possible sponsors they LOST during the Presidential Race where advertisers backed out because they refused to be fair and balanced with Trump.

By the way WBOC, don't be surprised if who you see hosting these broadcasts used to be with WBOC. OH BOY!

  27. That was the most disrespectful invasion of privacy.Just to make NEWS! Seriously where is common sense anymore?????

  28. TRASH TV AT ITS BEST. HOW WOULD THEY FEEL IF THIS PERSON WAS THEIR MOTHER, SISTER, WIFE OR DAUGHTER. THAT WAS IT FOR US. NOT WATCHING WBOC NO MORE. AT LEAST WMDT DOES NOT HUMILIATE AND ABUSE PEOPLE CONCERNING SENSITIVE, PERSONAL MATTERS. SHAME ON WBOC FOR RELEASING SUCH INFORMATION AND ABUSING A VICTIM OF A CRIME OF VIOLENCE.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thank God there are others who felt like I did when I heard them say her name. Do they not have any common sense??? Yes they should mention the other problems of the past at that prison but in now way say the victims names. What an embarrassment for the shore.

  31. The women who got raped 14 years ago at this prison, has probably been through so much therapy because of it, and she was probably just starting to trust people again, ONLY TO BE BLIND SIDED BY WBOC and now she has to relive every moment of torture that she went through because of these idiots!!WTG WBOC!! Someone needs to be fired, it shouldn't even be up for debate!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I predict WBOC will do nothing. No one will be fired, and don't expect an apology from them. Mainstream media that answers to no one!

  33. Remember....the producer is the one to be fired! These guys ONLY READ WHAT'S PUT ON THE TELEPROMPTERS!!!!!! They are NOT TRULY REPORTERS of any type.....just readers!!!

  34. 2:45, Steve Hammond is a VETERAN and what I thought to be a decent guy. Once I saw this I truly couldn't believe what I had just heard. Any decent man would have refused to read such CRAP and as a professional would have refrained from exposing her name.

WBOC can make all the excuses in the world, this was TRASH. If there was EVER a reason women would have marched on DC, this is the one.

    ReplyDelete
  35. How would they have reacted had it been their sister, wife, cousin, mother, daughter?

  36. WTF were they even thinking when they tried to CONTACT her to get a statement about the prison situation? There's something seriously wrong with any journalist who thinks that this is acceptable behavior and good journalism.

  39. Wboc is coming out with a statement that she came out voluntery and there was No laws broken

    ReplyDelete
  40. 4:43, IF what you say is true, it doesn't matter. The statement came out AFTER WBOC exposed her name without permission.

But let's say that they are right. WBOC openly admitted that this woman REFUSED to contact WBOC by returning their calls. ANY professional would RESPECT her past and NOT call her out by name. They could have simply stated a woman was raped there, since they admitted they didn't have her permission.

The fact that they chose to do so using the excuse she had said something elsewhere, WBOC did NOT have permission. It was the most ANTI FEMININE thing I have ever seen in my almost 55 years on earth.

I can GUARANTEE you there isn't a woman working there that isn't disgusted with what they did.

The damage is done. Liberals make excuses and never own up to their mistakes. Her name should've never been mentioned, period.

  41. I've bumped this post up to 6 PM so people can watch what 4:43 claims might happen on their 6 PM broadcast.

Ladies, you should be outraged. They can make every excuse in the world, we have a screen shot of WBOC admitting they could not reach this woman but exposed her name anyway.

I came to learn WBOC has lost one advertiser from a business owned by a woman.

  57. @ Shawn Widdowson, "...if it's bad publicity on the campus the hospital our any county branch." That's the way it is here in Salisbury. The hospital, the university, the mayor , the city council, t v stations, etc. they all cover each others azz. Nothing bad about them is to get to the people. My brother used to tell me what he saw going on in our city. Many times he was told to keep his mouth shut. One thing was the use of city property, city employees, city money, and such to install sand bags at a private residence at Canal Park when bad storms were predicted. The employees questioned it and were basically told to shut up if they wanted to keep their jobs. He told me there was also an issue with an A C generator installation at Perdue. Using again city employees. City charter says no employees are to be on private property or use city materials on city property. It really bothered him that such as this was going on and the city leaders were allowing it. The Canal Woods thing I believe were related to the mayor at the time.
