Native Americans hope President Donald Trump doesn't forget America's first inhabitants as he promises to put "America first."
Tribes have been reaching out to the Republican administration since it took office last month, saying they're ready to help it meet its campaign promises of improving the economy and creating more jobs for Americans.
Five large tribes in Oklahoma — the Cherokee, Chickasaw , Choctaw, Muscogee Creek and Seminoles — have requested a meeting with the New York billionaire during his first 100 days in office so they can talk about ways to advance their common interests.
Despite uncertainties, many tribal leaders say they're hopeful they can build on the strong relationships enjoyed under prior administrations.

[Even though Minnetonka, Minnesota is surrounded by tribal reservations with desperate poverty, I noted that my Minnetonka moccasins have a label hidden inside that says 'Made in Dominican Republic', and the beadwork for fancier ones is done in Africa. --Editor]
It's disgraceful that Minnetonka would outsource MOCCASINS in the middle of Indian country.
ReplyDeleteBut the bigger disgrace is how much foreign aid we give to countries who hate us, while our own native Americans suffer in terrible poverty.
I certainly hope Mr. Trump will address this issue.
I am hopeful that this administration will make great strides in the treatment of native Americans, surpassing anything previously done and restoring fairness.
ReplyDeleteNo group or race should be treated differently all should be equal. I'm sorry, but Native Indians, Blacks, Muslims etc should not receive special treatment. We all have some background thru our ancestors they may have created strife in some form, but we are way past that time. Quit living in the past, live for today and how you can better yourself and your family.
