JUST IN: Trump makes unannounced trip to Dover to honor fallen Navy SEAL

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. (AP) — President Donald Trump is making an unannounced trip to honor the returning remains of a U.S. Navy SEAL killed during a weekend raid on an al-Qaida base in Yemen.

Trump was to arrive Wednesday afternoon at Delaware's Dover Air Force Base.

Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens, a 36-year-old from Peoria, Illinois, was the first known U.S. combat casualty since Trump took office less than two weeks ago. Three other Americans were wounded in the operation, which was planned by former President Barack Obama's administration but approved by Trump.

Trump was expected to join Owens' family for a private ceremony.

The trip was not on Trump's public schedule. A small group of journalists traveled with Trump on the condition that the visit was not reported in advance.

  3. A true President does things like this because it's the least he can do for the men who die for our country to remain a free & sovereign nation. Like I've said many times, President Trump is the first real President we've had since President Reagan.

  4. This is what a President is supposed to be, a leader honoring those who sacrifice. What we had for the last eight years was an insult.

  5. Obama probably called the al-Qaida group to congratulate them. Finally after 8 years of a traitor we have someone in the oval office that respects it and loves the country.

  6. The press is going absolutely NUTS over this because Trump went UNANNOUNCED. You see, Trump must get their permission first, NOT! Trump goes by the beat of his own drum, I LOVE IT!!!

Both just earned even more respect from our country.
Thank you to both for keeping our county safer.

  8. I see that a "small group" of reporters went with him. Be interesting to see what media outlets they represent. Let the name calling begin!

  14. I voted for Trump despite some concerns. Anything was better than Hillary. I have to say, despite the whining and wheezing from the lunatic left, I do not think he has made one mis-step yet.

You're right, because he never would have approved the mission in the first place.

  20. Prayers to the Owens' family and RIP Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens. Thank you sir.

And respect goes to President Trump for his actions.

Much better than the fat failed candidate that went to Dover, just to lie to the families.

  21. 7:21. It was planned by military personnel while Obama was POTUS but NOT APPROVED. Not sure if you know how things work at the Pentagon. Many missions are practiced and suggested but the affirmation must come from the WH. Just like the raid on Bin laden, ST6 leader William O'Neil told me that it was planned several months before Obama knew about it. They even constructed a mock compound to practice. Obama finally grew a pair and let it happen after months of convincing him. Obama sits to pee.
