COUNTY EXECUTIVE RESPONDS TO SALISBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT, INC., COMPANY NO. 1 ANNOUNCEMENT
Salisbury, MD … I am very supportive of all Wicomico County Fire Department Volunteers and appreciate all that they do. The decision made by the Salisbury Fire Department Volunteers was a personal choice of theirs. I have been advised that the Salisbury Fire Station #1 is being manned 24/7 with a paid crew so there is no lapse in coverage. At this point in time the decision to establish another station for the Volunteers will be made by the Fire Chief’s Association. Currently the Fire Service Agreement is being negotiated with the City of Salisbury and I am positive that we will come to a fair and equitable solution for all parties.
"I am positive we will come to ...." is a hell of a reckless positive to claim in a negoiation

ReplyDeleteI support Culver on this one but probably should be a bit more guarded about the city's reasonablness

Yes lead by a County fire department, cheaper and far better. Problem is, it takes WORK!
ReplyDeleteThe Fire Service needs serious change. Look at Allen as an example. The yacht club fire, with a 20 minute two person response, next company scratches, building totally lost. Then, they allowed a rekindle by failure to overhaul, that's what totalled the building. Both inexcusable.
ReplyDeleteGood example
DeleteIf the paid firemen wont respond to the county that's a lapse in coverage.
ReplyDeleteRemember the days of Mayor Paul Martin, Chief Francis Darling and Volunteer Deputy Chief Tony Sterling? Strong leaders who made things happen. The volunteers were so respected and appreciated. Henry Parker and Richard Henson played a big role in the creation of Station One to support the volunteers. The volunteers were given real authority. Francis must be shaking his head at the mess that is SFD. The others must be spinning in their graves at the lack of leadership and respect for VOLUNTEERS. No grown-ups left in leadership in the City. Culver needs to take the lead...and quickly!
ReplyDeleteYou want my two cents worth . . . I say let the Parsonsburg VFD take over the whole county caboodle. There is nothing that these first class volunteers can't overcome. Believe me - the Parsonsburg VFD personnel are like the Spartans, renowned for their physical strength, durability, and leadership.
ReplyDeleteExcept thier ex president Whittington, he's a loose goose, trying his BS in OC
Deletemake the city cough up all the money that they owe to the county and use that money towards fire houses within the county and let Salisbury worry about the funds it needs for Salisbury. They have already been known not to pay up so cut them off!
ReplyDeleteTime and ooportunity to lead boldly Bob. Don't go graveling to the city
ReplyDeleteLet Jake lie in the bed he's made
Put three new county stations together to cover the county areas covered by 16, 2 and 1 and let the city deal with their own mess they've made. The citizens are tired of dealing with their antics.
ReplyDeleteNice that Bob has our backs, and I'm thinking this may be the best solution to a corrupt City Government to roy in its own swill. Bob will not leave us unprotected. He is showing what a strong leader does.

That^^^ is the problem!! This issue has been stewing for a long time and Hoppe, Tull, Darrin Scott, Gladwell, Jester, Frampton, O'Barsky, Records(yes Bryan Records), et. al. have been working on getting rid of the volunteers in Salisbury for a long time. Get rid of them and work on bringing the brotherhood back in Salisbury.

It's time for the City of Salisbury to dissolve it's charter and become One Wicomico!

It works that way in the majority of the counties in Maryland. Start now!

The leadership of Barrie Tilghman, Jim Ireton now especially, Jake Day has ruined the Salisbury Fire Department with the help of Rick Hoppes. If Jake Day wants to save face he needs to get rid of Hoppes and his clowns NOW!

You are exactly right. The fire service in Wicomico County needs some serious change and the leadership in Salisbury is assuring that our residents are being injured or killed at Salisbury's expense. It is my understanding that Darrin Scott responded to this house fire after consuming some happy beverages.
Fire destroys house in Salisbury
Henry Culvyhouse
A fire consumed a single story house in Salisbury on Sunday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital.
The Salisbury Fire Department responded to the fire in the 200 block of Cherry Way just before 1 p.m. on Feb. 26 to find the home in flames. Assistant Chief Darrin Scott said one person inside was sent to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with burns and a total of two people were displaced.
"The home is pretty much a total loss," Scott said.

It took fire crews about 20 minutes to contain the blaze, according to Scott. Due to the lack of fire hydrants along the street, four tanker engines were on scene providing water, Scott said.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal also responded to the scene to investigate the origin of the fire. Scott said the local Red Cross will be contacted to assist the displaced residents.

Jake Day has already made a promise that the Salisbury Fire Department WILL NOT respond to mutual aid calls when Station #1 gets their building and fire district.
How childish and immature. If that is the case I hope Bob has the balls to cut off all funding to the Salisbury Fire Department.

I prefer Parsonsburg over the self proclaimed heroes of the paid Salisbury Fire Department.

The city of Salisbury owes Wicomico County millions of dollars in back pay over their free rent at the Government Office Building alone.
When they do finally make an arrest, the inmate is taken to the Wicomico County jail free of charge.
How much does Wicomico 911 charge the city for answering their emergency calls?
How much does it cost Wicomico County to plow their roads?
How much does it cost Wicomico County to make arrests and patrol the streets of Salisbury.
You see what I mean!

And build water and sewer towers near these pole buildings so that the ISO can go down. Place these 3 stations near developments like Nutters Crossing so they can feel safer. Put fire hydrants in developments like Nutters to their insurance rates will go down.

Bob needs to work with the county council members and work out a workable plan for everyone. Where was he during the county work session on Thursday.
Was the Station 1 volunteers at the Reunion Breakfast this morning at Station 2 put together by Bryan Records?

ReplyDeleteSalisbury is still within Wicomico County. If you live in Salisbury City limits do you still have to pay County taxes? If so you can't deny people the service.
