President Trump signed a notice of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership Monday, kicking off the highly-anticipated process of withdrawing the U.S. from a trade deal that has become deeply unpopular among his supporters.
Sitting in the Oval Office and flanked by members of his senior staff, Trump also signed an order that imposes a federal hiring freeze on all departments "except for the military" and an order cutting off funding to international groups that perform abortions, a rule known as the "Mexico City policy."
The trio of orders Trump signed on Monday marked the next step in the first major wave of actions of his presidency.
On Friday, Trump issued a regulatory freeze and instructed his agencies to stop enforcing aspects of Obamacare. He then conducted telephone calls with a number of foreign leaders over the weekend, including with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
