WASHINGTON (AP) — Ahmer Abbasi speaks softly as he describes the strip searches, the extra shoves, the curses that he endured in a federal jail in Brooklyn following the Sept. 11 attacks.
“I don’t think I deserved it,” Abbasi said during a telephone interview with The Associated Press from his home in Karachi, Pakistan.
Abbasi’s quiet, matter-of-fact tone belies his determination, even after 15 years, to seek justice in American courts — provided the Supreme Court will let him.
The justices on Wednesday are hearing an appeal from former Attorney General John Ashcroft, former FBI Director Robert Mueller and other former U.S. officials that seeks to shut down the lawsuit that human rights lawyers have filed on behalf of Abbasi and others over their harsh treatment and prolonged detention.
“Somebody has to be accountable, somebody has to be responsible,” said Abbasi, 42, who works in real estate in Pakistan.

ReplyDeleteThe hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Lebanon. None of which are Pakistan. That doesn't even take into account the severity of his treatment just because he fit a profile.
A. Your wrong on the terrorist pob B. He is lying and a terrorist. C. I hope YOUR on the watch list.
Delete641 did your even read the articles. He was using a false name, fake green card, fake license, several fake address. He was also in possession of 100k cash. He was held as a John Doe because he kept giving a fake name. Nothing was done to him that is not done to everyone in jail. He disagrees with the jail system in America but admits to lying made his stay longer... he also admits lying to FBI during the worst attack in us history was also a mistake but he was scared because he never paid taxes in the us.
DeleteYour a terrorist sympathizer coward makes me sick.
DeleteNo dice, 6:41. AlQuida and ISIS claim they are borderless, and in all Middle East Nations. So, why should we give SA a bye? Absolutely not!
ReplyDeleteWho is Allah?
ReplyDeletethe Islamic god is called “The Greatest Deceiver” ( Qur’an 3:54 )The Bible too also mentions the GREAT Deceiver.
(Rev 19:20) And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he Deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
The ONE trait that is truthful about Allah is also congruent to the beast; also known as the Biblical Satan.
The God of the Bible is not only Faithful and Honest, but he is also reliable and true. Because he is a God of Light, no ‘Darkness’ can flow from him because it would be incompatible with his identity.
However, the God of the Quran does NOT share this Quality (Honest, Truthful).
In fact, In the Qur’an the scriptures call their God (‘Allah’) the Greatest Deceiver out of ALL of the Deceivers.
So unlike the Christian God, The God of Islam is not truthful and honest. Instead he is deceptive and crafty (Qur’an 3:54) Now it doesn’t take a genius to realize that if “Deception” is known as one of someone’s best qualities — that person (or entity) is one in which you can “trust” to your own peril.
awesome response
DeleteSURJ, Showing Up For Racial Justice. What are you trying to say? He fit the profile so they should have stopped him. A profile is a DESCRIPTION of someone who committed a crime. He fit the description so they stopped him. Any problem with that? What about all he did? Fake name, fake license, fake address's etc. Why was he doing that, pray tell? Because he was there to do some harm to Americans but we found out and he hauled azz back to where he came from. He thinks it has all calmed down now so he can sue us for money to be used to buy weapons to attack more Americans.
