Sharpton on Sessions: Vows ‘Season of Civil Disobedience’

WASHINGTON -- National Action Network president Rev. Al Sharpton promised a “season of civil disobedience” in reaction to the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for attorney general in the Trump administration.

Sharpton, an MSNBC host, said activists have planned a march in Washington on Jan. 14 during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to protest the Sessions nomination. Sharpton recalled spending 90 days in jail for protesting on U.S. Navy land against military exercises on the island of Vieques in 2001 when George W. Bush was president, adding that civil disobedience usually works because it changes policy.

“We’re not just doing this to be doing it. We do it because it can lead to change and, believe me, there will be a season of civil disobedience particularly around the Sessions nomination,” he said Friday on a conference call with other civil rights organizations’ leaders such as Cornell William Brooks, president and CEO of the NAACP, and Janet Murguia, president and CEO of the National Council of La Raza.

  1. Sharpton is a domestic terrorist and should be charged as such. There really isn't any discussion about it. He calls for murder; he calls for unrest and riots(NOT civil disobedience); he calls for all sorts of violence. He is a domestic terrorist.

  4. Why is Sharpton still waling the streets a free man? I agree with 9:57. Al is hiding behind free speech; he obviously has disdain for America and what she stands for. Why do we tolerate that????

10:24 Sharpton is Barrack's buddy, so even if he was arrested, he would be issued "Pardon" and be out next day, bragging about himself again. Didn't he say he was moving to Canada if Trump was elected? Hey Crooked Reverend, better start packing, Trump Train Is Coming!

  6. First,do not insult the churches by calling sharpton Reverend. Second,to all those who dislike our country and cannot pledge allegiance to her, LEAVE. And in case you have forgotten what allegiance means, let me refresh your memory. Allegiance; The tie or obligation of a citizen or subject to his government or ruler; the duty of fidelity to one's ruler, government,or country. Keep this in mind when you see our flag.

  7. Sounds like he's inciting riots. And he still owes back taxes. In 11 more days the Trump team can and should do something about these law-breaking troublemakers.
