Maryland public schools rank fifth in the nation

Maryland's place on a national ranking of state public schools fell once again this year from fourth to fifth place.

Education Week, the national newspaper that ranks state education systems based on statistical information, placed the state behind Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont and New Hampshire on its Quality Counts report which was released Wednesday.

From 2009 through 2013, Maryland held first place in the rankings - a record cited frequently by politicians, business leaders and others looking to attract investment and families to the state. In 2014, Education Week did not rank states. In 2015, the state's place fell after the ranking system changed.

  3. Sad statement for public schools in this nation, since public schools in Maryland suck in general. I am surprised we are 5th!

  4. Keep that in perspective, please.

5TH place means your graduating 12th graders can spell their own name, verbally tell you their address, and can navigate Facebook and Google. Math? lol. Science? What science? Self-esteem? Through the roof!
They are STILL dumber then 5th graders of 40 years ago and will go on to waste $100,000 on a college degree in "marketing" or "history".
After graduating college, they'll move back down into the basement, get a job at Starbucks, and vote for whomever promises them the most free stuff.
It ain't nothing to brag about.....

  5. Maryland liberal teachers cheat on tests..over and over they pad grades to hide thier incompetence..not all but many. Public schools are animal jails where children are babysat instead of taught.

    1. Not in Worcester, but every other county is a disaster. Somerset is just a nepotists dream. Long standing tradition of hiring stupid family friends and welfare "rehabed" crackpots to teach. And the kids run the schools like wild beasts. No one wants to stand up and take responsibility for these diasters.so we have a bunch of uneducated welfare slobs and maybe a dozen smart kids in each class of a hundred..sad.
