Maryland Democrats press Hogan on Trump’s travel ban

Democratic lawmakers in deep-blue Maryland are calling on Republican Gov. Larry Hogan to denounce President Trump’s controversial travel ban.

Hogan, who is widely popular in Maryland even though Democrats out number Republicans in the state more than 2 to 1, was sharply critical of Trump during the presidential campaign and did not vote for the Republican candidate.

But he has been silent on the travel ban Trump signed Friday, even as a growing chorus of Republican have condemned it.

Over the weekend, the state’s leading Democrats took to Twitter and other social media to denounce Trump’s newly imposed ban on refugees and travelers from seven majority-Muslim nations, calling the executive order hateful and un-American. Their messages demanded to know whether Hogan would say the same.

  2. Liberals, once again, trying to pressure Hogan into instant answers. Their purpose, to include Hogan with other angry liberals who are IN THE MOMENT.

My suggestion to Hogan, don't respond for several days. They are trying to tie Hogan to Trump because he is republican.

The Maryland Media SUCKS! Hogan is NOT Trump.

  3. Joe you are right Hogan is not Trump. He is more like a McCain or Graham. He goes with the wind direction and that is always changing. He just wants to be re-elected so he can be another Politian ripping MD tax payers off with a pension for doing nothing. Yes I am a Conservative.

  4. 10:04, I firmly disagree. Look, I do NOT like the fact that Hogan inserted foot in mouth when he wouldn't support Trump but just like this case, the media is once again forcing their hand.

Hogan has been one of the, (if not the) best best Governors Maryland has been fortunate enough to enjoy.

You fake republicans are constantly attacking this man, conveniently forgetting all he has done so far to encourage economic development and far better business practices for businesses he and others interested in coming here.

He, (like Trump) has a ton of cleaning up to do and you people know it. You IDIOTS refuse to recognize that it is BUSH and MILLER who are screwing the state and trying to override Hogans vetoes.

We at Salisbury News were the ones who introduced the solar legislation and bills to Hogan, (he was unaware of what O'Malley had done) and he immediately vetoed those bills that would financially destroy MOST Marylander's who do NOT have solar panels. Your rates are going to skyrocket if Miller and Bush ultimately override this veto but NONE of you are willing to educate yourselves on just how serious this is. I'm talking a possible 400% increase over the next 4 years on your electric bills.

Now, have any of you seen any of this from your main stream media, NO! We have even had to correct the newspaper articles on the Western Shore and so forth for their FAKE NEWS on this matter. One of those authors has been removed from speaking on this matter any more because we proved them wrong.

Hogan is an absolute blessing to this state and you so called republicans attacking him better start counting your blessings and FIRE ALL liberal elected officials, including Miller and Bush. They are a cancer to this state but you need to educate yourselves first.

WE are trying to do that by providing factual information NO ONE ELSE will provide.

  5. Joe is absolutely correct - the accelerated RPS bill (that the legislature seeks to override) - will cause all Maryland utilities "COST OF SERVICE" to rise exponentially - and this is going to cause Marylander's electricity rates to go through the roof.

It's not the utilities that are going to be paying the surplus electricity payments (solar panels) - instead - its the RATE PAYERS - or utilities customers. Already - you have seen a 10% rate increase proposed by DP&L and this is only the beginning of a seemingly endless number of rate increases that will be forthcoming if the Governor's veto is overridden. You can't say that SBYNEWS didn't try and warn you in advance.

  6. 17 counties out of 26 (27 including city of Baltimore) were RED RED RED.

So the opening comment DEEP BLUE MARYLAND is WRONG and an alternative FACT!

  7. As Joe noted, Hogan would be wise to dodge answering this set-up type of question. If cornered, just add that control of the nation's borders is not part of his job, and that MD welcomes those legally admitted to the US to come here and work.

They'll be off baying about his Supreme Court selection at 8:01 tonight.
