    1. It's called a medical assist. Believe it or not but a paramedic and EMT can't handle every medical/trauma scene by themselves. It was reported that one of the patients was in trauma arrest. Without a Lucas automated compressions device, an arrest requires 3 people; 1 to secure the airway and provide ventilations, 1 to perform compressions, and 1 to manage the cardiac monitor/defibrillator, establish IV access, and push meds. Not to mention the fact that there were 2 patients shot.

  18. That is the 2nd murder in about a year within a block of each other. I remember years ago - to great fanfare - a police substation was opened on Church Street. Another was located on Smith Street. Neither did any good so the idea of "community policing" has been (no pun intended) shot to hell.

Then there was an effort to combine patrol officers with probation officers to make "house calls" on high risk offenders (whatever that means) and that failed. Policing in areas of gangs and drugs will not work. Incarceration will work. It will help protect me and my family. I would rather foot the bill of $18,000 annually to lock people up in order to "buy" some piece of mind and safety in our community. Look at all that crap last night from Malls throughout America. Until the African American community leaders and pastors can be strong enough to de-thug-a-tize a town, we are all going down the drain. As much as I support right to carry laws in Maryland I am not sure that's going to work either. I guess I don't have an answer. God help us all.

  22. 7:03 AM - Used to be in the local paper every day. Journalist used to go down to the station and report on the police blotter.

I fail to understand how putting your head in the sand helps either.
Folks are more proactive when they know something is going on in their community.

If I know there are break in's in my neighborhood, all the neighbors are informed and watching out. That way we get to catch the perp. Keep it silent and his misdeeds go on longer than need be.

The Mayor and his lies are a bad joke on his community, but then we know he only cares about his political aspirations and doesnt give a fart about the citizens he is keeping in the dark

  28. This blood shed should be on the hands of Jake Day, city council and the incompetent Chief. Everyone needs to remember this when these fools come back up for election. Jake again going into a new year has failed to do anything with SPD and the city council has failed to discuss or push a change. It is only going to get worse people. Demand the change at SPD. Someone needs to gather the people and attend a city council meeting and demand answers. This is the only way change will happen. Thanks Jake for not honoring your word of fixing SPD when you were campaigning. You have big problems there and why do you refuse to fix it? This will become your ultimate demise at your next Mayor run. The people will not forget and to fix months before your election is being a coward. As a military man, grow a set and led.

  29. 7:39 Is right. We need to know and communicate what is going on so we can be ready and vigilant. Siloam had some cars broken into recently, and we communicated and kept an eye out for each other. Whoever is doing it better be very careful because there are a lot of eyes watching. The reason the bad neighborhoods continue to be bad is because no one cares what's going on around them. Indifference is the enemy of good people.

As Trump said...elections are rigged. Especially starting at the bottom of the barrel. It makes no difference who you want in office, there are a select few that run this town just like other towns. They pick their golden boy or girl and get behind the loser so they can give that loser his or her marching orders. I keep promising myself not to vote again, but keep breaking my promise. I thought Joe A was the best mayoral candidate due to experience, but again "they" had others plans. Those plans are always to benefit the certain few and not the minions. Trump was the exception, thank the Lord.

This is a very real and growing problem for our home. Mayor Day has, as yet, failed to publically recognize and acknowledge the problem. His refusal to address the problem in turn offers not an ounce of solution.
The public should demand it. Community, business, political and religious leaders need to take a stand and open the eyes of this yoing, inexperienced and frieghtened neophyte mayor. We need mature, experienced, capable, politically willed leadership - now!
