The march was about a lot more than women's rights. If you are lucky enough to not feel like a second class citizen, or if you've never felt in danger or worried because of your gender, you're very privileged. Thousands of women in this country are still in situations where they don't have the right to go out and get a job, where they can't get access to the support they need, be it emotional, mental, or healthcare-related. There is the wage gap, the rape culture issues, and plenty of other women's issues that I, as a white man, can't even articulate because I've never and will never know what it's like to be a woman in this country.
However, it was also about LGBTQ+ rights, standing up against Islamaphobia, and there was a presence of many other groups, including anti-abortion, pro-choice, Black Lives Matter, immigration, and other rights groups.
The aim, basically, is to show solidarity with women (and men) the world over. That's why there were sister marches in countries all over the world (even in places like Cambodia, where they're technically not even allowed to protest). It was as much pro-women and pro-equality as it was anti-Trump/etc.
If the march is about everything, it's truly about nothing. Keep on keeping on, very vocal minority.
ReplyDeleteThis march was about attention.
ReplyDelete"Look at me. I'm doing something important (though I really don't know for sure what that is)"
was there a march in North Korea?
ReplyDeleteInteresting...I was finally able to find what was called the 'Platform' for the organization of this march. First of all, it reads more like a diatribe than a platform. Secondly, the word 'inclusion' is used many times over in the copy I read. I am puzzled...where was 'inclusion' when the ladies (and men) who were pro-life supporters were told they couldn't be part of the parade and party? Did 'inclusion' mean 'you are included only if you agree with our agenda? Whatever that might be...otherwise don't try to be rational and confuse us? Help all of us here!
ReplyDeleteThe rock group Queen...they had it right...listen to 'Fat Bottom Girls'
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you march against Obama, for 8 years you have been all these things you mention and did nothing.
ReplyDeleteThis person does understand that Islam (a cause which they are championing by being against Islamophobia) is a religion that discriminates against women more than any other religion, right? She does know what a burka is right? Or that women in Sharia countries are not allowed to attend school? Vote? Talk without their husband's permission? I just don't get it...
ReplyDeleteBS every woman in this country has the right to do anything they want (within the law of course). If they can't it's not because of the country, it's because of themselves. You are your own destiny.
ReplyDeleteThe March in North Korea started the same time as the one in Iran. Ended at the same time as Cuba's.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you folks bitchin' about? You have all the rights you need. You won't be happy til we're all gay or trans or whatever. You are starting to impede- no, you're past that point- on my rights as a citizen. The bathroom thing was the breaking point. Every damn TV show has a gay theme, yet less than 1% of the population is. Nice representation, huh?
Don't preach about being in danger because of how you were born or how you decide to live your life. Over the last 8 years, people are afraid to live in certain cities because 'your' president thought it better to side with the 'disenfranchised' minorities and talk bad about the men and women who protected us.
So take your march and all the reasons you did it and stick it up... no you may like that.
I'm sorry that your feelings are hurt. Grow up and get over it. We don't have to change for you. I accept you, I don't criticize you and don't even judge you. Start doing the same to me. If you want more empathy, stop shoving your ideals down our throats!
Forget the last 8 years, how about the past 241? Trump is in office for one day and we are marching to show him and everyone else that we demand equality for all. Why were there no marches during Obama's term? Why no Marches during George W? If any president deserved women's march, it was Bill Clinton and most of the country is mad his WIFE WAS NOT ELECTED PRESIDENT! WHAT KIND OF MESSED UP LOGIC IS THAT? At the end of the day the march was because your values are not at the forefront of politics. Now another set of values are. That is not inclusive what so ever. We include everyone (Disclaimer-Only if you march in protest with our same beliefs).
ReplyDeleteIt is only ok for women to want rights that are pro-choice.
It is only ok for women to march if they want free birth control.
It is only ok for women to march if they believe we should be willing to accept anyone and everyone into this country.
It is only ok for women to march if they are not strict Christians who believe in the word of God.
It is only ok for women to have a voice if they are fighting against Trump.
I know plenty of women who voted for Trump and they have been ostracized to the point that they are not even on speaking terms with friends just because of that fact. The group who wants you to be more thoughtful and inclusive is the most bigoted group out there now. As a Trump supporter, I believe in equal rights an opportunity for everyone. But at some point when are you going to come to grips with the fact he is our President? Republicans better be taking notice of these actions because if a Democrat is ever elected again they have free reign to act as they please and pretend to have a higher moral ground because of it.
The aim basically was to say, "We don't want Donald Trump as our President." Tough sh*t!!! He is your president. He is my president. He is the President of the United States of America and as long as you are a citizen of this country and until at least the next election, he is your President. Now, should you wish to terminate your citizenship, the line starts to the right and you are all welcome to terminate and LEAVE! The rest of us are tired of hearing you whine and complain and piss and moan. GET A JOB. GET A LIFE.

ReplyDeleteHave heard suggestions the march had its roots as a planned homage to Mrs. Bill Clinton since they expected her to win and thus would have a victory parade the day after the swearing in. And while the fireworks display in NYC got cancelled, they decided to put on their best RBF and protest about whatever upset them. And so it was.
The march in D.C was bought and paid for by George Soros. Many of those women wouldn't have been there without a handout to march. Pathetic.
