Last year, a proposed contract between the United Auto Workers (UAW) and Ford hinted that the automaker would introduce brand-new versions of the Bronco 4x4 and Ranger pickup truck. When Donald Trump seized on Ford's decision to move small car production to Mexico during a Presidential debate, the UAW countered with some fact-checking—and in the process, confirmed the return of the Bronco and Ranger.
Shown above, a fan's imaginary rendering of what a 2020 Ford Bronco could look like, originally published on Bronco6G.com
Bill Johnson, a UAW rep for Ford's Wayne, Michigan plant, confirmed to the Detroit Free Press that the Bronco and Ranger will begin production once Focus and C-Max production shifts to Mexico. Johnson felt the need to clear the air after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump accused Ford of cutting U.S. jobs during the first Presidential debate.
"I think Trump needs to get his facts straight," Johnson told the Freep. "He is absolutely beating up on Ford for doing what everybody else has already done."

Two Men Charged with 73 Counts of Illegal Hunting
Two men who killed eight deer in a single evening in Baltimore and Howard counties have been charged with 73 counts of illegal hunting by the Maryland Natural Resources Police.
John Dimingo Gallano IV, 20, of Pasadena, and Christopher Michael Johnson, 20, of Halethorpe, were charged last Friday after a year-long investigation.
The two men shot the deer with a crossbow from a vehicle with the aid of a spotlight between 1 and 5 a.m. Oct. 18, 2015, near Spring Grove Hospital Center in Baltimore
County and in Ellicott City in Howard County.
The carcasses of a nine-point buck and three four-point bucks were dumped in Pasadena neighborhoods. Two deer – a six-point buck and a doe – were taken to an Anne Arundel County wild game processor. Two deer were not recovered by the shooters.
None of the deer were logged in or recorded, as required by state law. Neither man had written permission to be hunting on any of the properties where the deer were shot.
Gallano was charged with trespassing, hunting deer with spotlights, nighttime hunting, hunting from a vehicle, shooting from on across a road, hunting within a safety zone, hunting on private land, failing to report a kill, wanton waste of deer, false entry in a public record and illegal dumping. He is due in Anne Arundel County District Court Oct. 11, in Baltimore County District Court Nov. 14, and in Howard County District Court Nov. 17.
Johnson was charged with trespassing, hunting deer with spotlights, nighttime hunting, hunting from a vehicle, shooting from on across a road, hunting within a safety zone, hunting on private land, failing to report a kill, wanton waste of deer, possessing a loaded crossbow in a vehicle, false entry in a public record and illegal dumping. He is due in Baltimore County District Court Nov. 14 and Howard County District Court Nov. 17.
The charges could result in fines of more than $50,000 for each

When Did Our Elites Become Self-Serving Parasites?
Combine financialization, neoliberalism and moral bankruptcy, and you end up with self-serving parasitic elites.
When did our financial and political elites become self-serving parasites? Some will answer that elites have always been self-serving parasites; as tempting as it may be to offer a blanket denunciation of elites, this overlooks the eras in which elites rose to meet existential crises.
Following in Ancient Rome's Footsteps: Moral Decay, Rising Wealth Inequality(September 30, 2015)
As historian Peter Turchin explained in his book War and Peace and War: The Rise and Fall of Empires, the value of sacrifice was a core characteristic of the early Republic's elite:
"Unlike the selfish elites of the later periods, the aristocracy of the early Republic did not spare its blood or treasure in the service of the common interest. When 50,000 Romans, a staggering one fifth of Rome’s total manpower, perished in the battle of Cannae, as mentioned previously, the senate lost almost one third of its membership. This suggests that the senatorial aristocracy was more likely to be killed in wars than the average citizen….
The wealthy classes were also the first to volunteer extra taxes when they were needed… A graduated scale was used in which the senators paid the most, followed by the knights, and then other citizens. In addition, officers and centurions (but not common soldiers!) served without pay, saving the state 20 percent of the legion’s payroll.
The richest 1 percent of the Romans during the early Republic was only 10 to 20 times as wealthy as an average Roman citizen."

Watch: Paratrooper Dogs Hunt Poachers in South Africa
South Africa’s newest anti-poaching weapon: dogs that parachute into wildlife reserves from helicopters
In South Africa, man’s best friend is now poachers’ worst enemy.
To combat the illegal hunting of endangered elephants and rhinos, the country has trained an elite force of poacher-chasing dogs to parachute into wildlife reserves from helicopters. And the dogs are effective—one caught 115 groups of poachers in 18 months.
The organization behind this terrifying approach to conservation is a security tech company called Paramount Group. The BBC recently took a tour of the group’s Anti-Poaching and Canine Training Academy, and filmed some video of the dogs practicing. You can watch that video here.

Summer of 2016 runs close second for deadliest season
While there were plenty of headlines and tragic stories over the last few months, Ocean City is not ending its deadliest summer. It was, however, a close second.
From May 1 to Labor Day, six fatalities occurred in Ocean City, five as the result of accidents and one was a homicide.
In comparison, 2014 was the worst in the five-year period, with seven fatalities. One was a homicide and six were related to rip currents in the ocean.
“Any time there is a death in Ocean City it truly does affect us all, regardless of the circumstances,” said Police Public Affairs Specialist Lindsay Richard. “What is particularly tragic is that … these deaths could have been avoided.
Unfortunately for Ocean City, health and safety statistics rarely put things in perspective, as the number of incidents is frequently divided into the number of year-round residents to produce a percentage of population figure for crimes and serious accidents.

Teen Charged With Murder After Killing Her 2-Pound Premature Baby. How Is This Different From Abortion?
On Friday, a premature newborn baby girl was thrown out of a second-story apartment window to her death in Omaha, Nebraska by her 16-year-old mother, soon after giving birth. Antonia Lopez, the now-deceased baby's mother, was arrested and charged with murder the following day.
The baby girl weighed only two pounds and was believed to be 27-28 weeks old at the time of her murder, according to the director of the neonatal intensive care unit at the Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Ann Anderson-Berry. Murdering a baby inside a woman's womb at this stage, called a third-trimester abortion, is legal in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
According to the police statement, Lopez went into premature labor alone in her bedroom of the family apartment. After she gave birth to the child early that morning, she allegedly tossed the apparently unwanted life out of her second-story window. Lopez then posted "Who can do me a huge favor and has a car?" to Facebook at around 3:40 a.m.

Dozens of Afghan troops AWOL from military training in U.S.
Forty-four Afghan troops visiting the United States for military training have gone missing in less than two years, presumably in an effort to live and work illegally in America, Pentagon officials said.
Although the number of disappearances is relatively small -- some 2,200 Afghan troops have received military training in the United States since 2007 -- the incidents raise questions about security and screening procedures for the programs.
They are also potentially embarrassing for U.S. President Barack Obama's administration, which has spent billions of dollars training Afghan troops as Washington seeks to extricate itself from the costly, 15-year-old war. The disclosure could fuel criticism by supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has accused the Obama administration of failing to properly vet immigrants from Muslim-majority countries and has pledged a much tougher stance if he wins.
While other foreign troops on U.S. military training visits have sometimes run away, a U.S. defense official said that the frequency of Afghan troops going missing was concerning and "out of the ordinary."

Trump Lawyers Gearing Up For Fight With The New York Times
Lawyers representing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump sent a letter to The New York Times threatening a lawsuit after the paper published several pages of Trump’s 1995 tax returns.
The Manhattan mogul tapped Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman, a leading litigation firm whom he’s lavished with praise in the past, to lead his response.
Marc Kasowitz, a veteran litigator, told the Times he would execute “prompt initiation of appropriate legal action” should they publish Trump’s returns. He said that Trump had not authorized the release of his tax returns and their publication would therefore be unlawful.
The firm has represented Trump in various capacities since 2001, according to The American Lawyer. The firm was retained to restructure $1.3 billion in bondholder debt after his Atlantic City casinos shuttered, and again in a defamation suit brought against the ghostwriter of “TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald,” for suggesting his net-worth was less than $1 billion.

Top prison official talks of downsizing Maryland's prison system
BALTIMORE —Maryland's public safety chief on Thursday laid out the downsizing of the state's prison system.
It's the result of criminal justice reform and plummeting caseloads, dramatic in some places -- like Baltimore.
Video from Baltimore's Central Booking in 2003 shows nothing similar today. It used to be overcrowded with arrestees lined up outside waiting to be booked.
Today, Central Booking has room to spare, enough to allow part of it to soon be used to house women detainees from the old building next door.
"We are closing the women's detention center this month. I have told the legislature and every meeting I have been in. Those old buildings need to be shut down," Secretary of Public Safety Steve Moyer said.

Police tracking social media during protests stirs concerns
DENVER (AP) — Increasingly common tools that allow police to conduct real-time social media surveillance during protests are drawing criticism from civil liberties advocates, who oppose the way some departments have quietly unrolled the technology without community input and little public explanation.
Police say services such as Geofeedia, which map, collect and store information from social media posts, are a powerful way to help find crime witnesses, spot brewing problems during large gatherings and gauge community sentiment.
Groups like the American Civil Liberties Union say the software can be easily used to collect information on peaceful protesters or target certain groups. The programs let police gather and record all online posts within specific geographic boundaries, and some allow users to do keyword searches for certain words or hashtags.
Law enforcement agencies have used the services to mine posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other sites during parades, protests and other large events.

"Janet's With Her" - The Fed & Politics
Inside Track
The stock market – where shares in profit-making companies are exchanged – went up again. Does this mean the outlook for making money is improving? Does this presage higher dividends for the stockholders? What, exactly, do investors expect?
Partisan politics is for the most part a distraction, maintaining the illusion of choice for the public.
More of the same, is our guess. Hillary in her Heaven. Yellen on her throne. And now, Fed Governor Lael Brainard is said to have the inside track for the top job at the Department of the Treasury. Wait a minute…

DOWNED TREES AND SOME MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE WITH WEEKEND RAINFALL
While effects to Worcester County from Hurricane Matthew should be minimal, some minor coastal flooding and downed trees in areas where the ground is already saturated from recent heavy rains are expected. Residents should use caution when traveling in areas where recent flooding has occurred and be aware of the possibility of falling trees.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), widespread rainfall flooding is not anticipated, since rainfall will likely occur over an 18-24-hour period from Friday night through Saturday night.
Have a plan. Even with advanced warning systems, disasters often strike quickly and affect large areas. Residents are urged to assemble a disaster supply kit and create an evacuation plan that can be modified as needed to address potential future natural or manmade disasters. Learn how to develop a plan by picking up a copy of the “Worcester County Emergency Preparedness Guide,” which is available at all branches of the Worcester County Library, municipal town offices or Ocean Pines Association office and Worcester County Government Center.
The Worcester County Commissioners recognize that a number of county residents have friends and own properties in areas, such as North Carolina and Florida, that lie in the current path of the hurricane. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who may be impacted by this weather emergency.

On October 5th, 2016, Thomas Frank Lurie, Jr., age 46, was convicted by a Wicomico County Jury of First Degree Burglary, Armed Robbery, Robbery and First Degree Assault. On August 3rd, 2009, at approximately 1:20 in the morning, Deputies and Detectives from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on Snow Hill Road in Salisbury, Maryland for a home invasion in progress. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victims, a couple in their mid-eighties, along with their three great grandchildren. The victims advised the deputies that two men, wearing hooded sweatshirts and sunglasses, had broken into their home and demanded money. The eldest victim, who was 86 years old at the time and his 14 year old great grandson, in an attempt to protect their family, fought with the perpetrators. In the course of the altercation, the 86 year old victim was struck in the head, suffering a fractured skull. At that time, there were no identifiable suspects; however, in November of 2015, Thomas Frank Lurie, Jr. was identified as a suspect through the course of the continuing investigation. Lurie’s DNA was found to be a match to DNA recovered from pieces of evidence found at the crime scene.
Sentencing has been postponed in this matter. The defendant, Thomas Frank Lurie, Jr. is being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center pending sentencing. Lurie is facing a maximum of 55 years in prison.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney, Ella M. Disharoon, commended the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, and specifically, Detective Robert Wilson, for their ongoing work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mrs. Disharoon prosecuted the case.

Fears New 'Birth of a Nation' Film Could Incite Racial Attacks Against Whites
The movie studio behind the film, Fox Searchlight, is funding outreach programs in African-American communities to tell them not to rise up and kill white people.
The new “Birth of a Nation” film appears designed specifically to incite African-Americans to take part in a modern-day “slave rebellion” by attacking white people.
Such an outcome is so probable the movie studio behind the film, Fox Searchlight, is funding outreach programs in African-American communities to tell them not to rise up and kill white people as is shown in the film, but instead “rise up by voting” and “rise up to build affordable housing.”

Immunity deals stopped FBI from investigating BleachBit use in Clinton email case
Immunity agreements offered to two of Hillary Clinton's top aides prevented the FBI from looking into the circumstances surrounding the use of BleachBit, a digital deletion tool, to destroy the former secretary of state's emails.
In a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch Wednesday, four Republican committee chairmen demanded to know why Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson, two witnesses who also served as Clinton's personal attorneys, were granted such expansive protections despite the FBI's awareness that they had participated in potentially illegal activities.
For example, the FBI agreed to limit its search to emails written after June 1, 2014, but before Feb. 1, 2015. By doing so, investigators were barred from looking at emails authored around the time Mills and David Kendall, Clinton's lead attorney, held a pair of conference calls with technology contractor Paul Combetta that immediately preceded his use of BleachBit to erase thousands of Clinton's emails.

Obama’s tragic admission: He’s learned nothing as president
News flash: President Obama didn’t learn anything in eight years in the White House. And he’s proud of it.
As Obama admitted in an interview with New York magazine: “If you go back and you read speeches I made when I was running for the US Senate in 2003, or if you go back further and you look at statements I made when I was on the Harvard Law Review, my worldview is pretty consistent.”
The comment was a point of pride, which makes it doubly tragic. Once the smartest man in the room, always the smartest man in the room.
Never mind that the world is on fire, that America is polarized, angry and scared. Or that ObamaCare is a sick patient, that the economy is growing at a snail’s pace and that many cities are racial war zones.
It’s not Obama’s fault. None of it. He would do it all again.

Decentralize The Elections
It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.
~ Joseph Stalin
The federal government is making a move in the direction of further centralizing the administration of elections nationwide. The justification this time around is stated to be danger of Russian hackers who, we are told, will compromise election results. As if so often the case in debates about federal control, it is assumed that the federal government can do things with greater competence and more professionalism than any state government. The refrain is likely to soon be: "Hey states, running elections is so hard. Why not let us do it all for you?" At the moment, the feds are only offering "help" with voter registration systems. Even the feds admit hacking state-level election systems is very difficult. But, none of us should be surprised when the feds in the future start talking about the need to "modernize" election systems by centralizing them.
The Member States Have Historically Controlled Elections
Most Americans probably assume that elections are now and always have been, constitutionally, the domain of the federal government. But, this has never been the case. The Federal Election Commission wasn't even created until 1975, and even now, the FEC's power is limited primarily to regulating campaign finance, and not elections.
The federal takeover of elections, to the extent that it has been successful, has primarily been carried out by the courts, with the Supreme Court and other federal courts handing down decisions to states in regards to how elections must be conducted.
The courts have, for example, long intervened to prevent state governments from requiring that voters provide proof of citizenship or even proof of identity in order to vote. It is, apparently, a human rights violation to require that voters are who they say they are.

Analysis: Swing States Going Trump
Ohio, a bellwether swing state, is going for Trump and other battleground states will likely follow suit, according to expert analysis.
Hillary Clinton has already given up on Ohio after struggling to attract crowds and even volunteers in the state, as Infowars reported in a series of videos.
The New York Times is even covering up for Hillary’s Ohio collapse byclaiming the state is “no longer relevant,” despite declaring Ohio an “all-important state” critical to the election when Hillary was leading there only three months before.

The Noose Is Tightening Quickly On The Global Economy
The investment world has an embarrassingly short attention span. But frankly, it is a necessity. If daytraders, hedge funds and other horses in the carousel actually had to look beyond the next week of market activity or study back on market history in comparison to today, then they would not be able to retain their blind optimism, which is exactly what is necessary for them to continue functioning. If they were all to examine the global financial situation with any honesty, the entire facade would collapse tomorrow.
At bottom, it is not central bank stimulus and intervention alone that drives equities and bond markets; it is the naive faith and willful ignorance of average market participants. There is a problem with this kind of economic model, however. Reality is never kept in check indefinitely. Fiscal truths will be exposed, one way or another.
How does one know when this full spectrum shift in awareness will occur? Well, there’s no science that can help us with that. While basic economics is subject to the forces of supply, demand and mathematical inevitability, it is also subject to human psychology, which is another matter entirely.
In the past I have made a point to outline similarities in responses to various economic crises. For example, the media response and public perception at the onset of the Great Depression was a highly unfortunate exercise in false optimism. The response just before the credit crash of 2008 by the media and the masses was much the same. It is interesting to note in particular that the mainstream media tends to become more over-the-top in its certainty of economic stability the closer the system comes to collapse. That is to say, the nearer we edge towards financial calamity, the more violently the mainstream media attacks people who suggest that danger is on the horizon.
First, take a look at the following attempts by the media to embarrass or silence analysts like Peter Schiff just before the crash of 2007/2008:

Clinton Campaign Delays Run of $63K Ad Buy on Weather Channel
Hillary Clinton's campaign has decided to delay a $63,000 ad buy on the Weather Channel after facing backlash for being insensitive to the millions of people in the path of Hurricane Matthew, Fox News reported.
"We have requested that stations in Florida delay any of those ads on the Weather Channel until after the storm passes," Fox quoted spokesman Jesse Ferguson from a statement Thursday.
As Politico first reported, the proposition was risky from the get-go as political campaigns must refrain from exploiting suffering while at the same time make the most of the situation. The Weather Channel, with a surge in viewership, would provide a broader outreach.

State Department "Loses" Smoking-Gun Clinton Greek Bond Insider-Trading Email
While the US media remains fixated on the fact that Donald Trump did not pay taxes in 1995, Sputnik News reports, a major scandal has been unfolding with the State Department mysteriously losing an email that documents potential insider trading on Greek bonds by Hillary Clinton’s son-in-law Marc Mezvinsky.
As we detailed just 6 months ago, Hilary Clinton's son-in-law shuttered his hedge fund in May after a 90% loss...
Despite having Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein as an investor and being Bill and Hillary Clinton's son-in-law, Marc Mezvinsky (and two former colleagues from Goldman Sachs who manage Eaglevale Partners hedge fund) told investors in a letter last February they had been "incorrect" on Greece, generating staggering losses for the firm’s main Eaglevale Hellenic Opportunity, a/k/a the "Greek recovery" fund during most of its life. By 'incorrect' the Clinton heir apparent meant the $25 million Eaglevale Greek fund had lost a stunning 48% in 2014.
Which is not to say the larger fund it was part of is doing any better: as of last February, Eaglevale had spent 27 of its 34 months in operation below its high-water mark. We are confident that 13 months later the numbers are 40 out of 47, respectively.

More Federal Money for Somali Refugees in Maine
The federal government is sending more taxpayer money to Somali refugees in Maine.
“The United States Department of Agriculture is committing nearly $400,000 to increase food access for the Somali community in Lewiston,” the Associated Press reports:
Members of the Somali Bantu community in the city are partnering with the Cumberland County Food Security Council on the project. The funding is expected to support Somalis’ agriculture and help them reconnect with their cultural heritage.
The USDA says the objectives of the project include building the capacity of the Somali Bantu community and its farmers to produce food and address the problem of limited food access. The agency describes the Somali Bantu community as the poorest community in the city, which is the second largest city in the state.
Cumberland County Food Security Council will recruit people in the community to help increase access to healthy food.

The Statesman Vs. The Twit
Democrat Tim Kaine interrupted Republican Mike Pence so often in Tuesday's vice presidential debate it became noticeable on social media.
I'd vote for Kaine to be the guy who comes on tv and says "We interupt this program for a NBC News special report," but I'd vote 4 Pence VP.
— David Whitley (@DavidWhitley18) October 5, 2016
According to Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, Kaine interrupted Pence 39 times, while Pence interrupted Kaine only 19 times. It became so pronounced moderator Elaine Quijano had to start shushing him.
"Tim Kaine even interrupted Mike Pence when he was just trying to share a remembrance about 9/11 – he had to get in where he was," Kelly said.
Naturally, people planning to vote for the Donald Trump-Mike Pence ticket did not like it, and some even accused Quijano of playing favorites by cutting Pence off more often than she did Kaine.
But eventually, even fans of the Democratic ticket said it was getting on their nerves..

Pruden: And now the season of October surprises
The season of “the October surprise” is hard upon us, but this year we’re getting the October surprise on the installment plan. There’s a medium-sized surprise with the morning paper every day.
The New York Times delivered what it thought would be the A-bomb late last week, with the news that Donald Trump had used the tax laws to count losses against tax liabilities to defer paying $916 million in taxes.
This October surprise was apparently meant to suggest that the Donald was either an incompetent businessman and couldn’t be the rich man he says he is, to run up losses like that, or an unpatriotic genius, to use the tax code to enable him to save his business and stay alive to earn again. Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, called it “genius,” reminding everyone of the obvious, that the tax code enables every American, even an American despised by the “elite” media, to count losses against income.
This elite media was beside itself through the weekend, confident that The New York Times had finally fashioned a silver bullet if not an A-bomb, and the Donald would be destroyed once and for all, restoring civility, good table manners, peace in our time, free pot and soothing silence to the fractious land. Dean Baquet, the executive editor of the newspaper, was celebrated as a particular hero because he promised to go to jail to get the story in print. Bob Woodward, an editor at The Washington Post, said he would have printed it and wants to go to jail, perhaps to share a cell with Mr. Baquet.
The story collected considerable tarnish over the next few hours, however, with the news that The New York Times had avoided paying taxes on a pre-tax profit of $30 million, with a nearly identical legal exploitation of the same tax laws. (That was “different,” of course.) The Times not only got to delay paying its taxes, but through another loophole discovered by its million-dollar lawyers, it got a $3.5 million dollar refund. (Note to everybody else: “Don’t try this at home.”)
There may be a rest of the story. Federal law prohibits publishing an unauthorized tax return, with offenders risking five years in federal prison.

Tancredo to 'Never Trumpers': Get Off Your 'High Moral Hill'
With the fate of the Supreme Court hanging in the balance, "Never Trumpers" need to come down from their "high moral hill" and back the GOP nominee despite misgivings, ex-Colorado lawmaker Thomas Tancredo tells Newsmax TV.
In an interview Tuesday with "America Talks Live" co-host J.D. Hayworth, Tancredo pointed to the high court's refusal to rehear the Obama administration's bid to revive the president's executive amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants as the reason "why we have to care" that Donald Trump is elected president.
"If there's any issue that matters at all to anybody, all the Never Trumpers or Almost Never Trumpers or whoever the heck you are, just think about … the decisions that are coming down the pike not just this year, but for generations to come, how this election will affect those outcomes," he said.
"I just get so furious with the Never Trumpers who want to stand on this high moral hill and talk about Trump's inadequacies. I don't care about Trump's inadequacies. … I care about the Supreme Court," he added.

Flesh-eating bacteria claims life Of OC Resident
The end of summer turned tragic for recreational boater Mike Funk, who died on Sept. 15 after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria in Assawoman Bay.
His widow, Marcia Funk, said the nightmare began on Sept. 11 as the couple was preparing to leave their summer residence on 94th Street for their home in the Phoenix, Arizona area.
“Sunday afternoon, Mike and his friend pulled the boat out from the boat ramp,” she said.
On Tuesday, the couple packed their belongings for the trip.
“He went to store and came back and was just sitting in the car with the lights on,” she said. “I asked him what’s wrong and he said, ‘I don’t feel good, I’m throwing up.’”
Mike went inside to rest and after waking at about 8 p.m., he told his wife, “I don’t feel well, you better call the paramedics.”

Warning: Drug Interactions with Common Foods Can Be Deadly
Did you know that foods you eat every day can interact with medications and trigger dangerous reactions that can lead to permanent disability or even death? Even more frightening is that some foods rated among the healthiest can actually be among the deadliest.
How can we know which foods and drugs to watch out for? And how can we protect ourselves from food/drug catastrophes?
Grapefruit tops the list of foods that cause problems. Although many people know that it shouldn't be taken with blood thinners, it reacts with dozens of medications. "It's not just heart drugs," says David Bailey, Ph.D., clinical professor of pharmacology at Canada's University of Western Ontario. "At least 66 medications are known to interact with grapefruit juice, including some anticancer drugs," Bailey tells Newsmax Health.
Food and drug interactions cause two main problems. First, some foods block the body's ability to absorb medications, lowering their effectiveness, and, in some cases, causing them to be useless.
"Patients believe the drug isn't working when it's a food they're eating that's blocking its absorption," Bailey explains.
Second, other foods can increase a drug's absorption, which can lead to an overdose.

FEC war: Dems reject call to protect Internet news, talk radio from regs
In the latest partisan escalation on the Federal Election Commission, a top Democratic commissioner has ripped a Republican commissioner's bid to protect books, radio and Internet media from regulation as "pitiful."
Ann Ravel, a former FEC chairwoman, joined other Democrats at a meeting this month to block Republican Lee Goodman's proposal to explicitly expand the "press exemption" from regulations to books, satellite radio and Internet-based news media.
In pushing his plan aside, Ravel said that she didn't have enough time to consider Goodman's proposal.
Goodman noted that the proposal has been under consideration for a while.
Goodman told Secrets that the latest attack on his proposals again show that Democrats are hostile to free press rights generally and in the past he has noted their antagonism to conservative media which is heavily internet based and on the radio, including Sirius/XM. Ravel's "pitiful" comment appeared to refer to conservative news attention to Goodman's proposal.

Judicial Watch Targeted for Exposing Corruption
Just how effective is Judicial Watch in extracting information buried by the Obama administration? We need only look at how the White House has tried to quash its efforts for a clue.
On Thursday the General Services Administration’s Office of Inspector General published a November 2015 audit on its website, “Letter to Senator Johnson About GSA’s FOIA Process,” that criticizes the agency for, among other things, violating Freedom of Information Act protocols regarding a GSA video inquiry in June 2012.
The report says “GSA had granted Judicial Watch press status in the past,” which should have made it exempt from fees. In this case, however, JW was “denied the fee waiver request.”
Moreover, the clearly orchestrated obfuscation is linked directly to the White House. The report says the Office of General Counsel “received an email containing guidance for determining Judicial Watch was not a media requester. In the email, captioned ‘Judicial Watch Found Not A Media Requester,’ the sender, Elliot Mincberg, advised he had gathered this information at the request of GSA’s White House Liaison, Gregory Mercher.”

Will Illegal Foreign Voters Steal the Election?
"It could all come down to Colorado."
That's the latest conventional wisdom from presidential poll watchers. But it may not be legal American citizens in my adopted home state who choose the next commander in chief.
Instead, it could very well be foreign noncitizens voting illegally in the Rocky Mountains — and in other crucial swing states — who seal our country's fate.
Former Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler identified nearly 5,000 noncitizens in Colorado who voted in the 2010 general election. Gessler's office uncovered upwards of 12,000 noncitizens registered to vote. Liberal groups who oppose stronger election system protections attacked him for trying to verify citizenship status — because God forbid public officials sworn to uphold the rule of law actually do anything to enhance the integrity of our election system!
Compounding the problem: The militant immigration expansionist group Mi Familia Vota, connected with the Service Employees International Union, has ramped up its efforts in swing states to facilitate naturalization and registration of Latino voters who will promote the open-borders agenda at the polls.

Sick Hillary? Clinton Won't Attend Any Rallies For Over 2 Weeks
At the height of the presidential race, Hillary is taking it easy
Aside from the debates, Hillary Clinton won’t appear at any public events or rallies for over 2 weeks – at the height of the presidential race – suggesting that her health problems could be worsening.
Hillary’s schedule shows that she will appear at just one fundraiser, in San Francisco, California on Sunday, but besides that has absolutely no plans to show her face at any rallies.
Hillary’ s absence is emphasized by the fact that Bernie Sanders – who is 75-years-old – will head up no less than seven rallies over the next two days in place of Clinton

'A major headwind against the global recovery and a risk to financial stability'

“Global debt is at record highs and rising,” said Vitor Gaspar, director of fiscal affairs at the fund.

WSW Walk for Awareness CANCELED
After much consideration, Women Supporting Women has made the decision to cancel the 15th Annual Walk for Awareness scheduled for this Saturday, October 8th. “Due to the impending hurricane, 90% chance of rain and Winterplace Park still being under water, WSW has to keep the safety of our survivors and supporters in mind so we have no choice but to cancel this year’s Walk for Awareness.” Emily Rantz, PR & Marketing Director said. “We are deeply saddened by this decision as it is the first time in 15 years the Walk will not take place.” Walk registrants may pick up their t-shirts at the Belmont office on Thursday until 6pm and Friday from 9am-4pm. The non-profit invites locals to attend a free event on Friday, October 28th at the Salisbury City Park for “Light the River”. This event will honor breast cancer survivors and their families with a special luminary presentation on the river. The Walk for Awareness Awards presentation will take place that evening as well. For more information, visit the WSW Facebook page.

WASHOUT: Weekend circles drain
As most of the lower shore is anticipating what, if anything, Hurricane Matthew could bring, Snow Hill continues to deal with the aftermath of last week’s strong storms that left most of the north end of town under water.
Those waters have begun to recede, as the Worcester County Sheriff’s office announced Tuesday evening that Snow Hill Road north of the drawbridge was open to traffic. It had been closed by the State Highway Administration last Friday.
However, the road is not open in its entirety. A section west of Mt. Olive Road remains impassible because of a large washout, cutting the town off from Salisbury.
Also, the drawbridge is currently inoperable, and therefore closed to marine traffic, because the flooding destroyed the motor. The SHA said it would take a few weeks to repair.
“The area has a bunch of 42-inch drainage pipes that were scheduled to be replaced next year,” Charlie Gischlar, spokesman for the State Highway Administration said.
That schedule has been expedited, he said, but the SHA is still waiting to see what the weather will do this weekend before making firm plans on the repair schedule.
