When the Founders got together, surely they envisioned a society where an all powerful executive would use his power to dictate to the states that sexually confused, mentally ill young men pretending to be women can use any schoolhouse bathroom they choose, or else. Right? Wrong.
Yet that's exactly what President Obama is trying to do. Luckily, ordinary Americans nationwide are standing up to him. As Newsmax reports:
President Obama's new directive ordering public schools to allow transgenders to use the bathroom with which they identify is stirring emotions in statehouses and living rooms from Texas to Indiana.
Reaction from Texas came fast and furious in advance of the directive being disseminated Friday to schools nationwide, The Washington Post reported.
"I got news for President Barack Obama," Port Neches-Groves (Texas) Superintendent Rodney Canvass told local TV station 12News. "He ain't my President and he can't tell me what to do. That letter is going straight to the paper shredder."
"This will be the beginning of the end of the public school system as we know it," Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told Dallas-Fort Worth TV station NBC 5.
Reaction was fierce in Indiana, as well.
Dr. Zach Rozelle, superintendent of the Union County/College Corner Joint School District, did not mince words to CBS4 in Indianapolis.
"Another example of government … politicians using the public schools to promote their own political agenda -- little to no regard for the real impact on the right to privacy … security for all children," Rozelle said.
Good laws have a basis in sound reasoning. This law does not. It's nothing more than a vehicle for liberal self congratulation, at the expense of many tragically mentally ill, deluded people.

50 Irish railroad workers lie buried in a mass grave in Illinois
In the mid-to-late 1800s, as many Irish fled their famine-stricken home country, thousands came to America to labor on the railroad systems that would connect the states as nothing had before.
Sadly, many of these men – and some women – would lose their lives along the tracks where they set down the rails, due to the grueling labor, the often rough work conditions and the rapid spread of diseases such as cholera and dysentery. Worse still, a great number of these workers were denied any sort of formal burial, their bodies simply left behind or put in a mass grave with other workers.
Perhaps the best-known instance of an Irish railroad workers mass grave can be found in Duffy's Cut, PA, which first made headlines 12 years ago when brothers Doctors Frank and William Watson began their investigation into the deaths of the Irish immigrants, spurred on by a file of evidence left by their grandfather. After years of research and testing, they were able to confirm that while some of the 57 Irish immigrants, most from County Derry, died from cholera, others were murdered, possibly by locals who believed they were responsible for spreading the disease.

Bring Out the Pitchforks! The 5 Least Popular Governors in America
It’s probably a good thing that Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas has no illusions about being Donald Trump’s running mate.
Among all 50 governors in the country, Republicans and Democrats alike, Brownback is saddled with the lowest public approval rating, according to a new national survey by Morning Consult. Only 26 percent of Kansas voters approve of Brownback’s job performance, and 65 percent who say they don’t.
The 59-year-old two-term Republican governor and former U.S. senator was once the darling of the Tea Party and seemed to have limitless possibilities in politics. But his deep, Reagan-inspired tax cuts and fiscal policies drove up the state’s budget deficit and pushed its economy into a ditch.
Now Brownback stands out as the most reviled state chief executive in the country, despite some pretty stiff competition. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan, who many blame for the drinking water crisis in the city of Flint, suffered the steepest decline in popularity of any governor, according to the new survey. Yet Snyder finished third in unpopularity behind Brownback and Democratic Gov. Dan Malloy of Connecticut, whose state has suffered job losses to neighboring Massachusetts, among other problems.
Snyder’s disapproval rating among Michigan voters skyrocketed by 17 points to 63 percent, according to the new poll, while the percentage of voters who approve of the former Republican businessman dropped 13 points.

A Viewer Writes: Dorothy and Rt. 13
Joe,
Check out this pic. Many things come to mind, mainly the usual train of thought for the government as a whole.
First, why are there two signs displaying the same information inches apart, I assume one is to be replaced?
Why is it being replaced?
Is one sign outdated in its size or format? Reflectivity? Color?
How much does the new sign cost?
Was the construction company union? They needed to install a new sign to satisfy some union requirement?
What's going to happen to the old sign? Reused on another road? Recycled? Stolen by an employee for their man cave?
Is the old sign too low? Too high? Which one is old and which is new?
Is this double sign duty there to doubly enforce the Higher Fine Zone at Dorothy and Rt. 13? How much did those signs cost?
Now that the new intersection has been built, are we still going to be subject to the Higher Fine Zone, (which is about only a tenth of mile long.)?
All in all, I think the pic is funny and was worth an email to you. Time will tell what they do, would be a hoot if both signs were left up for a good while.
Does this mean I can drive 5,555 mph? The second sign has a bolt head decimal point. Maybe I can only go 55.55 mph!!!
BTW, these have been up for a week or so. Took this pic today.

Ultra-manly Putin Slips During Hockey Game
Russia’s fearless leader took a tumble while showing off his sheer masculinity on the ice.
Vladimir Putin — the ultra-macho Russian president known for his love of shirtless horseback riding and decades-long dedication to competitive Judo — slipped during an amateur hockey game in Sochi Tuesday.
Photos showed the red-and-blue uniform-clad president grimacing as he hit the ice. The puck sat just inches in front of the fallen hero.
The game pitted Putin’s team — full of former professional hockey players and other politicians — against a team of amateurs who qualified for the championship game through previous matches.

Subject: JUST IN: New email reveals Hillary violated MORE than just email security…It Is Worse Than We Thought....
It should come as no surprise to the American people that Hillary Clinton is in another scandal, different from the one about her emails. She was also careless about her phone communications.
Via The Blaze:
Hillary Clinton abandoned a secure line in 2009 when she experienced technical problems and opted to use her home phone instead, emails released Thursday reveal.
An email conversation obtained by conservative non-profit Judicial Watch through an open records request shows Clinton had trouble connecting with her then-chief of staff Cheryl Mills.
“I called some time ago to do a secure call with you — call them and ask them to try the connection,” Mills wrote Clinton in February 2009 after the two had trouble connecting.
“I give up. Call me on my home #,” Clinton replied.
“Just did – no answer,” Mills wrote back.

Russia Says U.S. Has Been Pretending to Strike ISIS Over the Last Year and that Obama is Lying to the American People
Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian parliament’s international affairs committee, commented on Tweeter that the United States is not bombing ISIS.
“McCain accused us of striking out at US-trained insurgents… However, since they have either run away or joined al-Qaeda, hitting them is a mission impossible,” Pushkov wrote on his Twitter account.
“The US-led coalition spent a whole year pretending they were striking ISIL targets but where are the results of these strikes?” Pushkov asked during and interview with France’s Europe 1 Radio.
Max Boot, a neocon ideologue at the Council on Foreign Relations, admits the U.S. bombing campaign against ISIS is primarily smoke and mirrors.
“Obama’s strategy in Syria and Iraq is not working… (because) the U.S. bombing campaign against ISIS has been remarkably restrained,” Boot wrote for Newsweek in February.
Figures compiled by the CFR reveal the U.S. has dropped 43 bombs on ISIS per day since the campaign began. In 1991 the Pentagon dropped 6,163 bomb per day on Iraq and 1,039 in 2003. Even Bosnia, which posed no threat to the United States, saw a total of 60 bombs per day in 1995.

Report: Clinton could be forced from race
Legal experts have long speculated that the scandal surrounding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s homebrew email server could cost her big.
Now, former Speaker of the House John Boehner is saying that voters need to be prepared for a federal indictment to force Clinton from the race completely.
And he believes that would set up Vice President Joe Biden to swoop in and take the Democratic presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Disturbing Sexual Conduct at Barack Obama High School, Coincidence?
Police in Milwaukee have launched an investigation after three teenagers live streamed themselves having sex, while their classmates watched on their phones at school .CBS 58 in Milwaukee reports two girls, 14 and 15, and a boy, 15, reportedly skipped school in January, and engaged in sex acts off school grounds, while streaming video live on Facebook. Four students watched the video on their phones while in health class at Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education.
Authorities have issued a search warrant demanding Facebook hand over all the information it has on the 14-year-old girl’s account – including pictures, status history, videos, and user information such as name and IP address.

Liberal students go bonkers over armed guards at Portland State
"Portland State University students stage a walk out and protest against the arming of campus police on Tuesday.
They ranted against capitalism, patriarchy, and white males, while calling police rapists, blocking traffic with a "die in" demonstration, praising Palestine, and Portland mayoral candidate Sarah Iannarone calls for ending cooperation with immigration enforcement.
One student shows up with a "Thug Lives Don't Matter" sign and is attacked by one of the communists."
Trump Speaks Out on Transgender Issue
The matter of allowing transgender students to use the bathrooms that match their gender identities should be decided on the state level, not by the White House, Donald Trump said Friday.
"I'd leave that up to the states,"Trump said on NBC's "Today" show. "That and other things, frankly. Let the states decide. It's much better as a local issue. I don't think it is a federal issue, where the federal government gets involved." Trump said he believes "everybody has to be protected," but when it comes to transgender students, "you're talking about a tiny, tiny group of the population. With that being said, everybody has to be protected. I would leave it up to the states."
His comments on Friday were slightly different than they were during an April town hall on the "Today" show, when he commented that when it comes to North Carolina's bathroom law, he would have left things as they were, rather than pass a law requiring that people use bathrooms based on the sex listed on their birth certificates, because "there have been very few complaints the way it is."

#NeverTrump Movement’s View of Trade Would Have Made Them #NeverReagan
The members of the #NeverTrump movement cite, in part, Donald Trump’s position on trade as a reason why they cannot support their party’s presumptive nominee, chosen by Republican voters.
They argue that Trump’s position on trade represents a betrayal of the Ronald Reagan legacy that defines virtually all thinking and rhetoric among the professional conservative class in Washington, D.C.
However, there is one significant problem with this line of attack: namely, Reagan’s record on trade far more closely resembles Trump’s position than it resembles the view of those in the #NeverTrump movement. In fact, by their own definition, Reagan would have been a radical “protectionist”—meaning professional conservatives who are #NeverTrump would also have been for #NeverReagan.

Failure to Launch: #NeverTrump Third Party Effort Dies Aborning
Jonathan Swan writes at The Hill of the “fizzling out” of the “Never Trump” movement’s efforts to launch a third party candidate against the GOP’s presumptive nominee.
An effort by prominent conservatives to recruit a third party candidate to run against Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is fizzling out.
A serious third party run would cost millions, and GOP donors have so far been reluctant to embrace a bid.
No major political star has stepped forward publicly so far to be a third-party candidate either, and possible recruits, such as Mitt Romney and Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), have ruled out doing so.

Sessions: 2016 Presidential Election A Choice Between Nationalism and 'Soulless Globalism'
Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions writes in USA Today that the 2016 presidential election is a choice between Donald Trump’s nationalism or Hillary Clinton’s “soulless globalism”:
For the first time in a long time, this November will give Americans a clear choice on perhaps the most important issue facing our country and our civilization: whether we remain a nation-state that serves its own people, or whether we slide irrevocably toward a soulless globalism that treats humans as interchangeable widgets in the world market.
In Donald Trump, we have a forceful advocate for America. Trump has said that our trade, immigration and foreign policies must be changed to protect the interests of American workers and our nation.
In Hillary Clinton, we have a committed globalist. Clinton was an ardent supporter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership — which surrenders American sovereignty to an international union of 12 countries — and has clearly left the door wide open to enacting the pact if elected.
There is only one sure way to defeat the TPP, and that is to defeat Hillary Clinton.
Meanwhile, Clinton’s immigration platform is the most radical in our history. Freezi

BREAKING: Hillary Just Received The Worst Possible – Putin Is Smiling!
Now, we’re just about to find out how serious Hillary Clinton’s crimes were!
Russia’s Kremlin now has in their possession at least private 20,000 emails from Hillary Clinton’s poorly protected server, and they are debating if they should be released.
They stumbled onto these messages while monitoring Romanian computer hacker Lazăr Lehel, who is better known as “Guccifer.” They were watching him closely after he failed to hack into the internet network for Russia’s RT television network.
While Hillary thought she cleaned off her server and deleted the most damning emails, Russia may release the messages! This changes the 2016 Presidential election in a big way:
A couple of years later, in 2016, the US then brought in Guccifer for questioning related to this incident. According to the report, NBC news knew why Guccifer was being questioned but withheld this information from the American public.
The Associated Press reported in October 2015 that “Hillary Clinton’s private email server maintained in her home while serving as secretary of State was possibly hacked by Russia-tied authorities, and others, on five separate occasions.”
The AP report noted that investigators discovered among Clinton’s cache of released emails malicious software aimed at transmitting data to three overseas computers, including at least one in Russia. This malicious software was reportedly activated by clicking on it; but in October it was not clear if Clinton actually opened these messages or not, per the AP.
Recently separate reports have come out noting that Guccifer had indeed hacked Clinton’s emails. Now according to this latest report, Clinton’s server was not only compromised by Guccifer but also by Russia. Guccifer told FOX News last week that he hacked Hillary’s homebrew server and so did at least 10 others.

Obama's Benghazi Amnesty
The Obama administration is refusing to seek the death penalty against one of the ringleaders of the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
The development gives Ahmed Abu Khatalla to withhold information during cross-examination, such as how terrorists obtained information on the consulate’s weak security.
Had he faced certain death, Khatalla would have no reason to cut any prospective deals with the Obama administration.
The Washington Free Beacon reports:
Ahmed Abu Khatalla, the accused ringleader of the of the Benghazi terrorist attacks that killed four Americans including a U.S. ambassador, will not face the death penalty if found guilty, Justice Department officials announced Tuesday.
The decision was revealed in a filing to D.C.’s federal trial court and marks a victory for Khatalla’s attorneys who had pressed the government to nix the death penalty as a punishment should the Libyan militant be convicted at trial, the Associated Press reported.

Trump: I’m not softening my stance on temporary Muslim ban
Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump said Friday he’s not softening his stance on a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, but also said proposals he puts forward now are really suggestions because he’s not the president.
“No, I’m not softening my stance at all, but I’m always flexible on issues,” Mr. Trump said on NBC’s “Today” program. “I am totally flexible on very, very many issues, and I think you have to be that way.”
“But I’m not softening my stance,” he said. “We have a major problem and we have to look at the problem. We have to solve the problem.”

Underage Sex Scandal Rocks Oakland Police Department
OAKLAND (CBS SF) — An internal affairs investigation is underway focusing on several Oakland police officers who allegedly had sex with an underage girl.
Sources told KPIX 5 the internal affairs investigation centers around a young woman named Celeste Guap, who was underage at the time. She recently began revealing details of her relationships with officers on her Facebook page.
Guap is currently either 18 or 19 years old, according to sources, who also say investigators believe Guap had sex with potentially dozens of police officers beginning when she was 16.

'I had to wear Pampers'
Workers at one Arkansas poultry plant were denied restroom breaks to the point some "had to wear Pampers," according to an explosive new report on working conditions in the chicken processing industry.
"I had to wear Pampers," a worker identified as Dolores stated in a damning report called "No Relief" released Wenesday by watchdog group Oxfam America. "I and many, many others had to wear Pampers."
Industry employees also have been forced to cut down on drinking fluids "to a dangerous degree," and some reported having urinated or defecated on themselves while working because they can't hold it in any longer, according to the report.
One worker said supervisors at an Alabama plant regularly threatened people by saying, "Go to the bathroom, and from there, go to Human Resources." Another worker at a plant in the Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia) region claimed it took between 20 and 60 minutes to get permission to leave her position and use the bathroom.
When workers do get permission to take a break, they aren't given much time to use the facilities.

Judge Napolitano: Hillary Facing Perfect Legal Storm Over Emails
The bad legal news for Hillary Clinton continued to cascade upon her presidential hopes during the past week in what has amounted to a perfect storm of legal misery.
Here is what happened..
Last week, Mrs. Clinton's five closest advisers when she was Secretary of State — four of whom remain close to her and have significant positions in her presidential campaign —were interrogated by the FBI.
These interrogations were voluntary, not under oath, and done in the presence of the same legal team which represented all five aides.
The atmosphere was confrontational, as the purpose of the interrogations is to enable federal prosecutors and investigators to determine whether these five are targets or witnesses. Stated differently, the feds need to decide if they should charge any of these folks as part of a plan to commit espionage, or if they will be witnesses on behalf of the government should there be such a prosecution; or witnesses for Mrs. Clinton.
In the same week, a federal judge ordered the same five persons to give videotaped testimony in a civil lawsuit against the State Department which once employed them in order to determine if there was a "conspiracy" — that's the word used by the judge — in Mrs. Clinton's office to evade federal transparency laws. Stated differently, the purpose of these interrogations is to seek evidence of an agreement to avoid the Freedom of Information Act requirements of storage and transparency of records, and whether such an agreement, if it existed, was also an agreement to commit espionage — the removal of state secrets from a secure place to a non-secure place.

New York Times Pays Minorities and Women Less, Union Study Finds
The New York Times pays unionized minority employees about 10 percent less on average and women earn 7 percent less than men in comparable roles, according to a study by the union at the company.
Women and minorities are more likely to hold low-paying jobs and are “much less prevalent in high-paying positions,” according to the News Guild, which published the study. The pay gap exists regardless of how long an employee has been on the job or the type of job, the union said.
Minority workers are “vastly over-represented in the lowest paid jobs,” including news assistants and help desk analysts, according to the study.

Maryland Working to Protect State Parks from Destructive Emerald Ash Borer
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is working to protect ash trees from the emerald ash borer – an invasive beetle that feeds on and kills native ash trees – treating about 300 trial trees at 16 state parks starting in mid-May. This destructive beetle has spread rapidly since it was first discovered in Maryland in 2003.
“Ash trees are a critical component to a healthy forest, providing shade, improving air and water quality, and serving as habitat for countless species,” Maryland Park Service Superintendent Nita Settina said. “As you can imagine, their aesthetic, environmental and economic value is immeasurable. This project seeks to protect hundreds of healthy ash trees from emerald ash borer while engaging the next generation of stewards in natural resource management.”
The Maryland Park Service and the Maryland Conservation Corps will perform targeted treatments to safeguard healthy trees at parks including Big Run, Cunningham Falls, Gunpowder Falls, Janes Island, Sandy Point and Susquehanna. The project is a cooperative effort between the Departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture, with funding provided by the U.S. Forest Service.

FBI Director Says Increase In Crime Linked To Police Being Less Aggressive After Ferguson
The death of Michael Brown at the hands of police officer Darren Wilson sparked a racially charged controversy that we haven’t seen in at least a decade.
We all know the story by now. Mike Brown, an African-American teen, robbed a convenience store and then ran into Officer Wilson on the street. Brown then resisted Wilson’s orders, grabbed his gun, and was eventually shot and killed by the officer while charging at him full speed preparing to tackle him.
The media immediately dumped gasoline on the fire and people like Al Sharpton instigated and encouraged race riots and lawlessness that devastated the surrounding community and the country.
Pitting people against each other is of course what the left does best.

Community Needs Knowledge With Opioid Battle
“You can’t do enough stories on this. It impacts everyone in our community because nobody is immune from it.”
That’s a comment that has resonated with us for several months. It came from a high school teacher on the lower shore about the opioid crisis facing this community as well as those across the country. The statement came after the teacher noticed fresh track marks on a student’s arms. The teacher notified the school nurse and what happened from there is a familiar tale. There was a report to the parents, who were unaware, then numerous attempts at treatment and years later an overdose with a lot of heartache in between. It’s an unimaginable turn of events that is more and more routinely inflicting this community with heartache and emotional devastation. It has to stop.
As a media company serving this community, it’s imperative we put a spotlight on this epidemic, which is tearing families apart and causing pain and suffering through young lives being lost in the worst case or severely jeopardizing their future at the minimum. We have done dozens of stories on the growing opioid addiction here, but we are planning to explore it with increased vigor to help raise awareness.
We are actively invested in spreading awareness about this problem and the associated resources that might help families and other segments of our society. The motivation is simple. Quite honestly, it’s because we are scared. We are frightened and worried about our own children and their future. The only non-option is to do nothing. We know there are others who feel the same.

County Mulls Education, Public Safety, Road Funding Cuts
SNOW HILL – Cuts in public safety, roads and education among other areas are expected to help balance Worcester County’s $189 million budget for the coming year.
The Worcester County Commissioners began their line-by-line review of the FY 2017 budget this week, making it about halfway through the extensive document in a work session Tuesday. The commissioners reviewed budget cuts made by a staff committee and added their own in an effort to reduce what started as a $6 million deficit.
While the commissioners were quick to make cuts to most areas of the budget, they agreed that the county’s roads were going to require significantly more funding in the future.
“These roads are failing fast,” Commissioner Merrill Lockfaw said. “You have a couple more winters and you’re going to have chunks of road coming out everywhere.”

Jail Time For Cab Assault
SNOW HILL — One of two Baltimore men arrested last August after allegedly refusing to pay a taxi cab fare before threatening and assaulting the driver and stealing the keys to the vehicle was found guilty last week of second-degree assault and was sentenced to 18 months in jail, all but 10 days of which were then suspended.
Around 2:45 a.m. last Aug. 17, Ocean City Police responded to the area of 126th Street and Coastal Highway for a reported armed robbery. The investigation revealed four individuals refused to pay the taxi cab fare. Two of the individuals, later identified as Justin M. Washington, 26, and Troy M. Thomas, 24, both of Baltimore, threatened and assaulted the driver before stealing $60 in cash and the keys to the taxi.
Upon arrival on the scene, OCPD officers observed Washington and Thomas chasing the taxi driver south on Coastal Highway. Thomas allegedly had a softball-sized rock in his possession at the time. Washington was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. Thomas fled to a nearby condominium and was later arrested.

Ocean Pines Medical Complex To Add Cancer Care
BERLIN – With site work currently underway, construction on the second phase of the Delmarva Health Pavilion Ocean Pines is set to begin this summer.
According to developer Palmer Gillis, construction of the second building in the new medical complex should take a year. When complete, the new building will allow Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) to expand its cancer care program in Worcester County.
“We’re taking what we’ve done in Salisbury and bringing it to Worcester County,” said Thomas DeMarco, medical director for PRMC’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute.
Gillis received site plan approval for the 20,000-square-foot cancer center last week from the Worcester County Planning Commission. Though he was originally granted approval for the project last year, minor elevation changes required a new approval from the commission. The proposed building is the same size as the one already on the site and is expected to mirror it in appearance.

Local Company Looking To Debunk Pre-Built Home Myths
DELMAR – Thinking about a new home?
Atlantis Homes wants you to think about a manufactured one. More than a decade after setting up shop in Delmar, staff members at the company say they’re still working to break the stereotypes associated with pre-built homes.
“Some people are still skeptical but they’ve come a long way,” said Randy Merritt Jr. of Atlantis Homes.
According to Merritt, the manufactured and modular homes being sold by the company today are made to last decades and provide buyers with an affordable housing option. Though sales slowed when the economy did around 2008, they’ve been picking up within the last few years as buyers have realized their mortgage payment in an Atlantis home is often no more than a rent payment would be.
“Our sales have increased as more people are choosing home ownership rather than renting,” Merritt said.

Maryland school systems review federal bathroom mandate
BALTIMORE —Are Maryland schools complying with the new federal transgender bathroom mandate?
The Maryland State Department of Education put out guidelines in October suggesting schools provide access to restrooms and locker rooms that correspond to student's gender identity.
MSDE also recommends schools have a gender-neutral, single-stall bathroom available for all students.
MSDE said it's reviewing the guidance from federal officials to determine whether there is additional information that it can give to Maryland school systems.

Tourist killed in crosswalk was trying to catch bus ride
The Pennsylvania man who was fatally struck by an Ocean City Police patrol car while walking against the traffic signal last week was crossing 94th Street to catch a ride from the bus, resort officials said this week.
“Apparently, there was a group trying to get on the bus, and one guy made it and the other didn’t arrive safely,” Acting Superintendent of Transportation Wayne Pryor said during Tuesday’s Transportation Commission.
Jeffrey Yale Delong, 67, of Kutztown, Pennsylvania was crossing Coastal Highway east to west in a crosswalk on 94th Street around 1:11 a.m. on May 3. He was struck by a marked police Chevy Tahoe that was southbound. The car was driven by on-duty officer Officer Xeniya Patterson, a five-year veteran.
According to Pryor, Delong was visiting Ocean City on a golfing trip. After the crash, he was taken to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, where he was declared dead.

Ocean City purchases new radio for $5.4M
After months of negotiations, the Ocean City Council has signed a $5.4 million contract with Eastern Communications Ltd. to replace its decades-old radio system.
The city staff has been waiting to see a new system installed, and some departments will still have to wait a few years for it.
According to officials, the radio upgrade languished for three years in the unfunded projects category until the manufacturer Harris Corporation announced it would no longer be providing parts for the system by 2018.
“If we’d want to buy a part, we would have to buy it on eBay if we’re lucky,” Emergency Services Director Joe Theobald. “We’re rolling the dice to see if we can operate until that time. The county also contracted with Harris in its upgrades, which are in process. And we’ve been maintaining [our system] so that it works almost flawlessly.”

A ridiculously cute puppy found outside a stadium has been adopted – by the team
A squiggly, downright lovable puppy has been adopted by the Savannah Bananas, a collegiate-baseball league team whose fandom just increased exponentially because, well, look at this sweet little doggie.
The seven-week-old puppy was found crying in the parking lot at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Ga., earlier this week and bore no tags, collar or chip. A staff member picked her up and she was adopted by Jared Orton, the team’s president, and his wife, Kelsey.
“It was just meant to be that we’d have a team dog as part of our staff,” Orton told the team’s website. “We took Daisy to the vet and aside from being hungry and dehydrated, she was in pretty good health.”

Berlin Mixed-Use Project Clears Planning Commission With Reduced Setback Condition
BERLIN – A mixed use project proposed by Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County is set to move forward after receiving planning commission approval.
On Wednesday, the Berlin Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve Habitat for Humanity’s plan to replace an old home with a new building featuring retail and apartments at 21 Jefferson St.
“This is how the town should grow — from within,” planning commission member Ron Cascio said.
Habitat for Humanity plans to tear down the early 20th Century home on the site and erect a two-story building. The new structure would feature retail space on the ground floor and apartments on the second floor. The organization would sell the apartments but would lease out the retail space, providing Habitat for Humanity with a steady stream of income.

Subject: Canadian Border Presents Security Concerns For United States
The U.S.-Mexico border has been a topic of much debate this election season. But should our national attention be more focused toward our neighbors to the north?
The Canadian border, just 300 miles from New York City, presents its own challenges, the scope of which CBS2’s Maurice DuBois saw firsthand during an exclusive tour earlier this week.
All that separates the two countries for miles at a time is a split rail fence that you’d find in any ordinary backyard. During DuBois’ tour, Border Control Division Chief Bradley Curtis spotted a horse that can cross the border with no trouble.
But the four-legged border jumper is the least of our concerns, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
“We see alien smuggling. We see narcotic smuggling. We see currency smuggling,” Border Patrol Operations Officer Brad Brandt said.
Agents said much of that activity is heading directly to New York City and our suburbs where the product is sold on our streets.
But drugs, as dangerous as they are. are just a part of the story.
“Our primary mission of course, is to stop a terrorist,” Brandt said.
“There are radicalized groups that are in Canada — that is a tremendous concern to us,” Curtis said regarding terrorism threats.
They said Canada’s more open-door policy toward Syrian refugees is also of concern.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Rosalinda Rivera with New Life For Youth said she was not surprised Chesterfield Police arrested three young men earlier this week and charged each of them with recruiting a juvenile for a street gang.
“There is gang activity right here in our county, and it’s been here for years,” Rivera said. “If parents are not awake your kid could get involved just as easily.”
Rivera’s father joined a gang in New York City at age 12.
By 14, he was addicted to heroin.
She said a Pastor saved his life.
Now he and his family run a recovery program for young people in Chesterfield County who are addicted to drugs, have been in gangs, or are thinking about joining one.

Police seek greater citation power in resort
Ocean City officials are considering the possibility of harsher and immediate penalties for those who do not listen to police officers.
During Monday’s Police Commission meeting, Capt. Kevin Kirstein expressed concerns that the city code might need to revisit old ordinances or create a new one to encourage people to stop what the police consider disruptive or unlawful behavior after the first civilian citation.
Currently, ordinances are written so that police can issue a citation on a first offence. If a person has not complied by the following day, it’s treated as a subsequent offense.
“It’s similar to if you had a fire inspection and your smoke detector wasn’t working. If you didn’t get it fixed today, then you’re still in violation for the rest of the day,” Kirstein said. “The best we can do right now is come back and issue another citation the following day.”

LEGENDARY COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER 5-14-16
This is getting away from Salisbury history a bit, but I have always found these batteries fascinating. The Boyd’s battery on the left was patented on Jan. 17, 1878, and is the more desirable of the two. The Richardson battery followed close behind, obtaining a patent on Feb. 8, 1880.
Richardson also patented his in Canada on Feb. 9, 1891.
It was common practice in the 19th century to find all kinds of medical devices touting their miracle cures. Tonics that promised to cure anything from the gout to a toothache were to be found usually with the traveling show that left that night, having cured no one. A galvanic battery was a disc to be worn around the neck and was supposed to have beneficial effects on the blood and any ailments associated with it.
The Boyd’s battery is a ring of gilt brass and encircles and binds 12 small varicolored metal rounds which in turn surround a 6-scalloped 18mm copper centerpiece. The centerpiece has a gilt brass center plug. The “battery” contains 15 separate metal pieces securely adhering to each other. Along with gilt brass, there were German silver and copper plugs plus assorted other metals to round out the battery.
J. C. Boyd sold the “battery” to agents around the country for 50 cents, according to his contemporary advertising. Retail price was probably about $1. Supposedly the battery’s electric current purified the blood when it was worn around the neck. Since there are open spaces between the twelve small rounds, a loop wasn’t necessary, but, as you can see, someone put a loop on each of these to hang around the neck. They could easily be removed. Though many of these pieces must have been made, they seemed not to have survived in any quantity. They are quite scarce today.
While the Boyd’s battery is about the size of a half dollar, the Richardson battery is a full 38mm, the same size as a silver dollar. The copper, nickel alloy and lead beads are enclosed in a brass and tin circular frame with a heart shaped center.
Whether any of these devices ever worked is pure conjecture. It probably had a lot to do with a person’s own power of positive thinking and a desperate attempt to feel better. Maybe I should have worn one last year and maybe I wouldn’t have had to go through so much.
Dean Skelos sentenced to five years for corruption
Former Senate leader Dean Skelos gets 5 years, fined $500,000
"I let things go off the rails," former state Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos told a federal judge Thursday morning, shortly before he was sentenced to five years in federal prison.
His son Adam, convicted alongside him on eight felony counts in December, was sentenced to six and a half years.
The state's most powerful Republican until almost exactly a year ago, Skelos will be required to pay a $500,000 fine. Both father and son will have to jointly forfeit $334,120.
Like former Assembly Democratic Speaker Sheldon Silver, who was sentenced to 12 years in a separate corruption case last week, Skelos still will be able to reap his nearly $96,000-per-year public pension
"I want you to know that I am deeply remorseful," Skelos told the court as he apologized to his former constituents on Long Island.

The Global Booze Market Shrank For The First Time In 10 Years
In an about-face from the previous 10 years, the world collectively put down its pints, shots, cocktails, and wine glasses in 2015, with a 0.7% drop in the global booze market.
That translates to a loss of 1.7 billion liters or 449 billion gallons of alcoholic drinks since 2014, according to research by Euromonitor International (h/tBloomberg).
Not everyone was shirking the bars of the world: Western Europe and Australasia drinkers stayed level, while North Americans drank 2.3% more than they did in 2014.
What’s been most popular, when people are wetting their whistles?
“Premium English gin, Irish and Japanese whiskey, dark and non-alcoholic beer are the flag bearers of growth and it is no coincidence that those also happen to be the segments gaining further momentum with the ever important millennial demographic in mature western markets,” noted Spiros Malandrakis, Senior Alcoholic Drinks Analyst.

Top Obama Official's Racist Rant
Speaking to graduates of Florida International University, White House National Security Adviser Susan Rice lamented on Wednesday that there are too many white people in top government positions. The lack of diversity, she added, puts our nation at risk because they all think alike.
Referring to criticism that the U.S. national security workforce is “white, male and Yale,” Ms. Rice told the graduates, “In the halls of power, in the faces of our national security leaders, America is still not fully reflected.”
“By now, we should all know the dangers of ‘group think,’ where folks who are alike often think alike,” she said. “By contrast, groups comprised of different people tend to question one another’s assumptions, draw on divergent perspectives and experiences, and yield better outcomes.”
Her comments were reminiscent of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who said in a speech in 2001, before Mr. Obama appointed her to the high court, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
Diverse leaders, she said, “can often come up with more creative insights, proffer alternative solutions and thus make better decisions.”
One has to wonder if by making “better decisions” she means lying about the Benghazi attack being the result of a YouTube video? Or how about playing politics with the Rwandan genocide, attacking Israel for its settlement policy, or praising a hard line communist as “brilliant”?

Anti-virus Pioneer John McAfee: Your Phone May Be Snooping On You
Computer security pioneer John McAfee pulls out his cell phone to stare at a notification on the screen.
“It says something changed in my account, please press next,” McAfee says. “I have the best (security) habits in the world and I cannot keep my phone secure.”
McAfee, whose name became synonymous with antivirus protection, says he’s no longer as worried about computer security. Now, he says, the danger comes from the camera and microphones we carry everywhere in our pockets, attached to our smartphones. It’s a “trivial” matter, he says, for a hacker to remotely and secretly turn on a phone’s sensors.
Think about that the next time you’re having a supposedly private conversation in your office, your phone sitting on the desk, he says. McAfee says he’s accustomed to the idea that potentially hundreds of people are listening to every conversation he has, and that his emails are widely snooped upon.
