Wicomico County isn't geographically located on the way to anywhere. No major freeways that allow goods to easily flow. It is easier to move the raw products elsewhere to be processed for sale. Added to that is the crime.
8:10, That isn't true. I relocated one of my distribution centers to Bishopville and never once had an issue with shipping products all around the world. I had UPS, FedEx and major trucking company pickup and delivery 5 days a week. I also had major full tractor trailer deliveries brought to my warehouse.
If I had any problem with the Shore, (business wise) it was not having easier access to BWI where I liked to fly in and out of. It was convenient when I was in the Annapolis are before I moved here but considering I wasn't traveling anywhere near as often as I had in the past, it was a small inconvenience once I moved here.
As I have stated numerous times in the past, you have to think out of the box as to what kind of businesses and or industries you want to try to attract here. Most of the major businesses in the state are actually vacationing in Ocean City and Delaware Beaches anyway, so why not try to entice those businesses to come this way.
The cost of living is probably at least half of what it might cost to live in let's say Montgomery County, Anne Arundel and even PG County. The cost to buy land, the cost to build a building, the cost to purchase a building, the cost to buy or build a home is so much less, more then 50% less.
So there really are no major inconveniences. It's a matter of adapting but from first hand experience it is so well worth it. Just my two cents.

The other side of the bay won't help us turn 13, 50, and 404 in to full high-speed, limited access freeways which are necessary for unhindered transportation and commerce flow!
Open up the Severn-River bridge, it's a choke point to getting out of the DC Metro area! Put an overpass at 213 where it crosses 50 - get rid of the stoplight! Put an overpass at 404 where it crosses 50 - get rid of the stoplight! Build a Bypass around Easton - better than the half-built one around Salisbury! Build a Bypass around Cambridge. Finish the Bypass around Salisbury. Open the traffic up to 65 MPH.
Then you'll have the commerce infrastructure built to allow the Eastern Shore (all three states) to grow!
Reality check - won't happen while the Annapaholes continue to send our money to support the Baltimorons - and the Eastern Shore of Virginia is still beholden to Richmond.
It is quite simple why this won't happen in Wicomico County: a lack of leadership. Nothing comes here except retail.

8:38 Good points. ESV is the worst. 3 times as many stop lights now then 20 years ago.
