A 17-year-old boy accidentally shot his friend late Friday afternoon in a hunting accident in Virginia.
The teen mistook his 16-year-old hunting companion for a deer, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said.
Investigators said the incident took place on private property on Mt Carmel Road in Charlotte County.
The victim was standing in an agricultural field and the shooter was 150 to 200 yards away. The 16-year-old died at the scene.
Authorities determined that both were wearing blaze orange and had taken hunter education classes.
The department says both teens had hunting licenses.

HOW THE HELL DOES THIS HAPPEN EVERY YEAR???? Hunters are told over and over again about making sure you see the animal clearly in your sight before pulling the trigger.....charge them with manslaughter and make them serve time. Just no darn excuse!
ReplyDeleteSince when do you shoot at movement instead of a hard target?
ReplyDeleteThis kid needs to go to jail!
Something doesn't sound right here.
ReplyDeleteNot many deer wear blaze orange. Therefore he was probably shot on purpose. The article said he was in a field. Surely standing in a open field you can tell a deer from a person wearing orange. If it was in thick woods you could use the excuse he heard something moving in the thick bush and shot at it. But that is still unsafe and stupid.
ReplyDeleteExact same thing happened to me out hunting with my wife. God rest her evil miserable soul!
ReplyDeleteNow that's funny lol
DeleteUnless your want to kill the person your hunting with I can't see how you can't see your not shooting at a deer. If your that desperate to kill some meat your better off going to work to earn the money and buy your meat at Walmart. Ive been hunting for 15 years. I have shot over 100 deer. I have never once not been able to confirm it was a deer before I shot. And btw I hunt in a thick woods.
ReplyDeleteI hunt state land, and have been shot at. I now shoot back! I fire at sounds just like they do, I am sick of people coming in close to my bait pile. This year I didn't have anyone hunting near me after I cut loose with a few wild rounds.
ReplyDelete12:16 should be report to DNR for being an idiot. Big bad hunter shooting deer over bait piles is one step above spotlighting.
ReplyDelete6:15 Exactly what is wrong with spotlighting? With or without harvesting food? Why the moratorium on game harvest at night? Who has decided they have the authority to make these decisions for citizens of this land? Why do they carry guns to impose their desires on other human beings? Re-think.
ReplyDelete8:20 It is ILLEGAL and you are not a hunter if you shoot deer frozen in headlights, you are just a killer of animals.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see an open season for the extremely overpopulated deer population here on the shore. One with no holds barred. A limited time period that includes any method of killing, day or night. The explosion in the deer population is costing farmers, car insurance companies, and the public WAY too much grief and damage. Those animals NEED to be killed.
ReplyDeleteSound like a typical white kid that will got off of murder. Sounds fishy to me
