Purse Snatching At Food Lion In Salisbury

The other day, (Sunday) an elderly woman was walking to her vehicle at the Salisbury Food Lion when someone came up to her and snatched her purse. We had been told she held on as best as she could but was pulled to the ground and received minor scrapes.

The woman instantly recognized the person who snatched her purse when she saw the Most Wanted and called the Salisbury Police Officer.

After three attempts to contact the Officer with no return call she was able to make contact with an elected official who then called the Salisbury Police Department and demanded someone follow through.

What's most interesting is, we, (the media) never heard of the purse snatching. You have to wonder, just how much crime is not being exposed in Salisbury. We were also told there was an alleged rape recently at the Hospital gravel parking lot behind the Hospital but once again we have not been able to confirm it.

  1. Just had this conversation with my parents. I live in the city limits, they do not. They have no idea and think all is well in this peaceful slum.

  2. This town makes me so mad for not putting information out there like this. Barbara Duncan and Jake Day what is wrong with you both? This place is not all fluff like you want everyone to think. Believe me, we have more sense than that. And to not call this lady back after she calls? Unbelieveable, just freaking unbelieveable. Why do we even have a police department if no one is going to respond anyway????

  4. Just pick one, there are four in the area. Which ever one you shop at don't go there after dark without a body guard. We may have to have a Militia to protect one another because the Local Yokels just aren't doing the Job.

  5. Since some LEOs don't want to do their jobs, citizens should be able to protect themselves (uh, I believe they have a RIGHT to do so!!!). This non-sense/constant stories (that are reported) of victims getting bum rushed/robbed, then when they attempt to call to report it/obtain help ~ there is NO ANSWER!

Hey LARRY, believe there is a growing need (it is 2016 - 21st Century) for flexible conceal and carry laws. LARRY...LARRY.. HEY LARRY??????

  10. If you are truly that upset.....you need to invest in a scanner that is capable of receiving 900MHZ channels so you can monitor the police and ambulance calls yourself! You can go online for frequencies used by local Law Enforcement and Salisbury University!!!!

  11. Was told years ago by family member in law enforcement not to go to Fruitland Food Lion at night due to purse snatchings. This is nothing new - just constantly covered up by political leaders. Wicomico needs to do what America did and vote to "drain the swamp"!

  16. Joe you and I both know what is going on in Salisbury. The Mayor Fake Day and Babs Duncan are falsifying the crime data in Salisbury. They are giving nothing to the press. They are losing good police officers weekly. People lets face it the city is in the crapper.

Duncan has tried are her liberal tactics and as Chief she has a right to do that. Now it is time to realize you pizza parties and cleaning out the pond just did not work. The good people of Salisbury will always support you. You will not and can not win junkies and thugs over. They have to change and it is almost proven science at this point most of them will never change. If Day does not let her go he will go down on the Salisbury Titanic.

  22. I'll bet it was the Pecan Square Food Lion. I quit going there because the store is nasty, and the black girl in the deli got an attitude when I asked for service to get some lunch meat. I now go there as a last resort. The whole store has gone ghetto!

  23. This town has not been safe since Duncan came to town the acting Chief of Police prior to her did a much better job, and Jake Day is only good for photo ops not real work. The people of Salisbury brought these people in and believe me you don't know the half of it. Start out the new year everyone by writing on your calendar every murder in Salisbury for 2017 you will see by the end of the year not half of them wind up being listed to keep the figures down for the press and the brain dead who wear blinders.

  24. Joe you bring about a good point about the most wanted, have you noticed they are almost always repeat offenders, they are not charged or ever jailed, and they expect them to turn themselves in! I know on our street couple of years ago they kept putting our neighbor on the most wanted, I repeatedly gave Crime Solvers and the police the correct address, they still kept him on the list. Finally they showed up for him about 6 mos later and of course he had moved out, and I told them how many times I had called. He is in another county still on a wanted list.

  25. My friend had her purse snatched at the Tilghman Rd Food Lion last month. Hearing the description of the man, the police told her he had done this before to other women recently. Why don't we hear about this?? Now, when I go to the grocery store, I put my money in my pocket and leave my purse at home. Hopefully I'm safer that way.

  26. We all need to be aware of our surroundings in ANY parking lot, not just Food Lions! Maybe these thugs hang out in grocery stores parking lots more though, since the majority of shoppers seem to be women, and alone much of the time.

This dump of a town hasn't been safe for quite some time, no matter who was Chief of Police. We have 3 different and separate police agencies in and around Salisbury, so this area SHOULD be safer. I can't say crime free because that will never happen anywhere. But, we should have most crimes solved and in a low amount of time.

But, we see that isn't the case. Why is that? Police do not work together? They don't share information? They don't actively pursue solving cases? Lazy police? Frightened police? Courts and prosecutors unwilling to prosecute and punish offenders? (Which in turn could make police think, "what's the point of arresting criminals if they are just set loose before our paperwork is finished".)

I am asking questions, not making accusations. Maybe someone will have an answer.

  30. It has been nearly two months since I left a vm for police supervisor to call me about a report. Never ever got a call back. Dealing with them is a waste of time. You almost have to have paid protection to accompany you around Salisbury.

  31. A business alarm went off in the Chusrch St area and when the owner showed up, he got out and looked around the building.
    The cops?
They STAYED IN THEIR CAR! And told the owner that it was too dangerous for them to get out and investigate.
    True story.
These are the same people who want you to believe they run TOWARDS danger and are the bravest of the brave.
Maybe so, but mainly when it comes to braving the rigors of manning a radar gun, asking if there are drugs in the car, and bravely hitting on the married clerk at the 7-11 because HIS wife is visitng her mother for the weekend.

  32. 2:37....try keeping your money in your purse and a .38 in your pocket.
I have NO PROBLEM with giving him your purse and then putting 5 rounds in his back.
Then go over, kick him in the face, pick up your purse (wipe the blood off, if needed), and go get some milk and bread.
One or two of those kinds of killings would put an end to thugs snatching purses, bet the house.
    Damn. I forgot.

The POLICE protect us, so no need for any guns. (sarcasm off now)

  37. If it had been Day, Duncan, or Lewis - OR one of their family members, you best believe they would have made sure it was all over the news. (or handled "eastern shore style")
The police need to hire enough officers to just sit at any of the parking lots where a Food Lion/Grocery Stores are ~ they could get tons of revenue from people parking in the Fire Land PLUS be available for the scum that hangs out when they act a fool.
