A mother of two young children was killed by a driver who tried to avoid a drunken-driving checkpoint in southwest Virginia, according to state police.
Police say the crash occurred Friday afternoon on Route 58 in the town of Coeburn, in Wise County.
Samantha Dennis, 36, of Coeburn was driving a sport-utility that abruptly stopped after arriving at a DUI checkpoint, according to authorities.
Police say she made a U-turn and headed west in the eastbound lane before colliding head-on with another car.

DUI checkpoints are a good thing though.
ReplyDeleteForget about "unlawful search and seizure laws".
Forget about "warrantless arrests".
Forget about COMMON LAW.
We love us some Statutory Laws.
So much for the argument that these illegal searches save lives.......8
ReplyDeleteto the person that spouted off about common law, statutory law, constitutional law, did the DUI check point kill these people or a driver that was drunk and driving illegally?
ReplyDeleteTo the person that says the flu and diabetes kill more people than drunk drivers. Do you want to pay for these innocent people's funeral expenses?
For the person that says that a DUI check point is an invasion of their privacy. Would you like to sit with this grieving family and explain to them why this happened ?
Most laws that are on the books are there to protect STUPID people from themselves and others.
Moonshine country (SW VA); surprised there still are checkpoints in Wise County.
ReplyDeleteMore harm than good this time...
Robert,
ReplyDeleteA PERSON killed another person.
Period.
It is a poor defense for illegally infringing upon everybody's civil rights with unconstitutional searches and seizures.
The DUI laws are about MONEY, like all Statutory Laws.
Get a clue
Nobody wants a government who is involved in CRIME PREVENTION.
Crime Prevention means the REMOVAL of Free Will.
Think about things so you will understand them.

Which one of his rights were violated while driving with a 5 year old in the car and blowing a .35 ??? Guess you would shake his hand and say I'm sorry as you open up the door for him.
5:16. The silent majority is not so silent anymore. I think we as a nation are done with smiling as are rights are stripped away. Its quickly becoming put up or shut up time and i like my chances.
