Gov-Elect: North Carolina Will Repeal LGBT Law On Tuesday

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — In a stunning development, the North Carolina law widely derided as the “bathroom bill” appeared to be on its way out after it tarnished the state’s reputation, cost it scores of jobs and contributed to the Republican governor’s narrow loss.

Democratic Gov.-elect Roy Cooper announced Monday that legislators will hold a special session to repeal the law known as HB2 that limits protections for LGBT people. Repealing the law would be a remarkable sign of cooperation for the incoming governor and the GOP-controlled legislature. Just last week, lawmakers called a special session and stripped Cooper of some of his authority when he takes office next month.

The moves started in the morning with the Charlotte City Council voting to undo its own local nondiscrimination law enacted in early 2016. It was that ordinance that Republicans blamed for the statewide law.

  1. Okay, so after all this banter, please explain clearly whether men and women will be

    A) restricted to their own biological sex bathrooms. or

    B) Allowed to walk in on any restroom they choose that day.

The "article" fails in this respect.

  4. Trump approves, having said trans people can use which ever Trump Tower bathroom they prefer. No doubt he knows many trans people considering the work he has been involved in most of his life. .

  5. 8:45 As it has always been with bathrooms you can go into any bathroom you want as long as you don't get caught or other occupants of the bathroom don't call the law on you.

It is funny that the real losers in this were the liberal areas of NC that lost business due to cancellations. Charlotte most of all.

The idiots in NC voted out a great Governor in McCrory and voted in a scumbag like Cooper. Fortunately the legislature is Republican controlled.

Funny that Cooper is trying to take credit when McCrory and the legislature said they would repeal HB2 if Charlotte rescinded their ordinance.

  6. This is one more reason Gov. Hogan must play well with others. Regardless of your political or moral views, you have to market them well and get feedback. Doing otherwise can blow up on you and get a liberal elected.

  7. Liberals repealing what is right - conservatives repealing what is wrong....sad state of affairs that elections are required to enact this kind of change!

  8. What's the complaint? This is just about the epitome of our political correctness that has gone unchecked. The minority now rules the majority. How did we let that happen? Young people have no clue but rant and rave on college campuses; who is paying the bills? A loon constructs a satanic site within feet of a nativity set, and he is allowed? Trump is attacked by the left and called everything from A to Z which is called freedom of speech, but ANY challenge to Obama and we are all racist? I know I am sick and tired of it and mad as he**!

    Merry CHRISTmas!
