Student protesters may face consequences, Montgomery Co. schools chief says

WASHINGTON — After violence broke out Wednesday morning at a student-led protest of Donald Trump’s presidential election victory, Montgomery County’s schools chief is asking students to stop protesting during school hours — and warning they may face disciplinary action if they continue.

In a video message released Wednesday evening, Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith said he is “asking and expecting all students to remain in school and participate in the daily educational program as intended.”

If students don’t comply, “they may be subjected to the regular disciplinary actions that align with whatever infraction is involved,” he said.

In the video, Smith said recent protests “have unfortunately generated valid concerns regarding the security of our students outside of our schools.”

  1. How can school officials be so heartless! These poor students have been traumatized by the results of this election. Instead of criticizing these young people they should be coddling them and opening "cry rooms" where they can just let go and cry it out for a few months. They should also wave the requirement for taking their final exams and they should all be given an "A" on their report cards. They should also all receive a "participation" trophy for attending the protests. These children are probably scarred for life. All readers, please send good Karma and "hugs" to these young folks and pray for a speedy recovery!

  7. These students aren't even old enough to vote. So if they miss school the should face the consequences. Give them all f's for missing class. Fail them if grades warrant that or get their butts back to school to learn something. Stop catering to them that's the problem with the Millenials and kids today. They give trophies for just participating. When I grew up only the winners got trophies. The others had to suck it up and try harder.
