Mom of school bus crash victims says she told school about bus driver in August

Monday afternoon, tragedy struck when a school bus crash claimed the lives of five children in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The bus driver, Johnthony Walker, has since been arrested and charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

Jasmine Mateen, mother of one of the crash victims and two other children on the bus, told NBC News she called and wrote letters to the school and the board of education beginning in August, shortly after school started.

“I’ve been calling, complaining about the bus driver since August,” Mateen said.

  2. In no way is this the mom's fault but you have to wonder if she knew he was doing all these things as well as drinking on the bus why did she keep on putting her child
On the bus with an abusive drunk driver? Or why not call the police????

  4. 12:51 I wondered that also but in her culture her kids are everyone else's responsibility and it would mean she would have to go out of her way to actually be responsible for her children.

    1. Well i wonder if i should say its in your culture for females to walk/run up church st begging and searching for drugs because when i ride down church street all i seem to see these days and nights is white women and not the ones who work at the Christian shelter. Maybe you should be more responsible for your own. Now that my dear is the pot calling the kettle black. I will pray for you and the ignorance you have been cursed w/.

  11. I have seen some bad school bus drivers in Salisbury. And I thought the chicken farmers driving a bus for extra money were bad. They should hold up on their one school every two years and use that money to train and recruit quality drivers.

  12. My very first thought when I saw the picture of that guy that was driving the bus was, "no way in Hades would I put my kids on a bus with a driver who looks like that." Sorry, but he looked like a drunk crack head. But by the same token I guess that many places can't get the "chicken farmers" to drive buses any more because the freakin kids are so horribly out of control that they don't dare drive buses any more. I know I wouldn't drive one. I guess this it one more consequence of letting kids run wild. They have to hire undesirables to drive school buses. But I do think that if the district had received all of those complaints about him before this time they should have at least investigated some of them. Aren't all buses equipped with cameras and recorders these days?
