NEW YORK — Bob Costas of NBC Sports is known for his thoughtful coverage of sports.
Leave it to Costas to come up with one of the most intriguing ideas we've heard on how the NFL can handle protesting players such as Colin Kaepernick — while placating #BoycottNFL fans angered over disrespect of the American flag and national anthem.
Costas, the 27-time Emmy winner, will host the pregame show for NBC's portion of the "Thursday Night Football" package, along with Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy and two-time Super Bowl champ Rodney Harrison.
During a press lunch in New York City on Monday, Costas outlined a possible "compromise" to Sporting News.
What if NFL players protesting social issues, ranging from Kaepernick's protest of police shootings of unarmed black men to Mike Evans' protest of the election of Donald Trump, agreed to stay in the locker room during the singing of the national anthem? asked Costas.
That way, fans in the stadium, and the millions watching at home, would be spared the sight of players kneeling or sitting out the presentation of Old Glory and the singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner."

Why not just stop showing players on the sidelines during the singing of our anthem.
ReplyDeleteNot acceptable and screw costas! The NFL needs to find a soul. Either these morons stand for the anthem or the they sit and the NFL allows the Dallas team (police), Brandon Marshall (mental health), and other players support their causes without being fined. I think the NFL is on a permanent slide down and they will not fully recover. It is more than just the spoiled brats that would be servicing burgers and fries if it was not for football.
ReplyDeleteI quit watching the NFL the moment Colin Kapearnick decided to kneel. I look at sports as an escape from reality, they are just a bunch of overpriced entertainers that have now ruined a wonderful game. Just like when I quit watching baseball in 1994 because they had a strike and cancelled the World Series. When you think you're bigger than the game, the the game becomes unimportant. Goodbye NFL, it's nice to have Sunday free.
ReplyDeleteI agree 9:35. I haven't watched a game all year.
ReplyDeleteCostas sounds like O'Reilly. They should be docked a games pay for every game they do not respect the Flag. After the 5th time they should be suspended for next 5 games. If it continues they should be banned for the next season. Who do these egotistical idiots think is paying their salary. US citizens or Illegals?
