Just about anyone and everyone has been talking about the controversial Donald Trump tape that was — conveniently — leaked Friday, just in time for the GOP nominee’s second debate with Hillary Clinton.
The remarks contained on the 11-year-old tape sparked intense discussion among members of the Republican Party, with many individuals — such as House Speaker Paul Ryan and Sen. John McCain — yanking their endorsement or support of the real estate mogul.
In fact, rumors swirled rampantly that Mike Pence, Trump’s VP pick, was so appalled by the comments he was ready to drop out of the race, however, it turned out that wasn’t the case at all.
And today, removing any remaining doubt, Gov. Pence came out in his first campaign event since the controversy erupted Friday and delivered an unmistakable message. As USA Today reports: Donald Trump showed last night that he’s a big man,” Pence said in his first campaign event since he canceled a Saturday appearance and said he couldn’t defend Trump’s comments about women captured on a 2005 videotape.
Pence said before Sunday’s debate that Trump needed to show “what is in his heart.” And, Pence said Monday, Trump did just that.
“Then he fought back and turned the focus to the choice that we face,” Pence said to cheers from the crowd of approximately 300. “I’m proud to stand with Donald Trump.”
