A Letter To The Editor: Downtown Parking Lot Incident
Joe -
With all of the talk of revitalizing the downtown area and attracting more business, I would like to share this malicious incident that happened to my wife's van while parked in the lot across from the county library.
Sometime between the hours of 6 pm and 9 pm on 9/24/16 someone smashed her driver's side window with an unknown object. No other vehicle was vandalized in the area. My wife was downtown with a friend exercise walking and enjoying the various activities that were taking place - Songwriter's Final 2016 @ HQ Live, etc.
As the enclosed pictures show, my wife parked in a very well lit area. It's amazing nobody witnessed the smashing of the window. Unfortunately the City Police had removed the broken window before she could take a picture of the initial damag (case #2016-46646). I'm communicating this to you to let your readers know that "thug activity" in the ' Bury is a reality in the downtown area. Also, the perpetrator(s) stole nothing from the vehicle or even opened the door. My dear wife was upset and shaken by this because she no longer feels safe taking her weekly walks in the downtown area. Wouldn't there be some sort of video surveillance for that area ? Maybe you might know who I can contact.
My brother lived on the plaza in an apartment supplied by his employer above where Watson's Smoke House used to be. He frequently sent me pictures and videos of stuff going on down there after dark and it is definitely THUG City. There is no way I would park my car or visit that area after dark. I do not even go to Brew River after dark for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to believe how FEW people know how UNSAFE "The BURY" is !!!
ReplyDeleteThey are not revitalizing anything, all they are doing is selling parking lots that we use to park at for work, to make us park at the garage where the bums hang out and the parking spaces are to small, and traffic jams getting in and out of it... They think they will get a lot of money via taxes once a new building is build where our existing parking lots are... I find this funny becasue of all the piece of shit buildings around here downtown, and they rather give us hardships so they can get an extra couple hundred of bucks for taxes if ANYONE BUYS the lot to build and if any office spaces get rented... You would think, they would fix the older falling apart buildings first...
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the hood.
ReplyDeleteThe whole area is infested with homeless, drug and prodtitution problems.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry this happen to you and your wife. Please don't take this the wrong way because I am not criticizing anyone wanting to park there. You should be safe where ever you park. The thing is, I would not park anywhere near that hole after dark and with very much caution during the day. I am a male and have a carry permit.I have felt this way for many years now, nothing new. I have meetings downtown on occasion at night and have witnessed things to give me this stance.
ReplyDeleteDamn how did acquire a carry permit in Marylandistan?!
DeleteYes, please enlighten me also of how you got a CCW

ReplyDeleteThose people who are prodding for tuition are the real problem.
Wboc cameras ?
ReplyDeletedo u mean wmdt - tv station on plaza?
DeleteWhy would your wife ever consider down town a safe place to walk ? That place has been dangerous since the 70's. If they want to revitalize that area the first thing they need to do is stop building section 8 riverfront housing then remove all the houses from Fitzwater street to rt 50 and rebuild it as a business area.
ReplyDeleteThere are some states like California where it is legal to break a car window if you spot a shut up pet inside.
ReplyDeleteGo to MSP online and make application for carry. Approximately 4 months wait time. Qualifications, prints, etc. not easy.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know, too.
ReplyDeleteWait. An attorney with connections? A wealthy business man who the cops just couldn't say "no" to?
Just for the record, "we, the people" don't need any man's PERMISSION to carry a gun.
Some politicians and some cops think that they have been given authority to dole out our RIGHTS as THEY see fit, or to tell us which rights they will ALLOW us to use.
We got some rope for them, too.
159 PM Said "Go to MSP online and make application for carry. Approximately 4 months wait time. Qualifications, prints, etc. not easy."
ReplyDeleteBut first, you have to have a Handgun Qualification Permit (HCL). After that, you have to have a valid reason for carrying a gun, e.g. carry lots of money, jewels, etc. You've had several death threats and/or have been beaten to a pulp on more than one occasion or if you were a LEO or CO. If you meet one or more of the criteria then and only then will you be considered a candidate for CCW. Even then you might not qualify for a full-time CCW, it might only be for business hours or when you are carrying large deposits.
2:36.... that's just for the Second Amendment.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the ever-present threats to the OTHER Amendments.
Two Sets of Laws.
One for us, the serfs, who go to prison for not toeing the line.
The OTHER set is for the Masters, who break it, bend it, flaunt it, and ignore it, only to be rewarded with Ambassadorships, judicial appointments, lifetime jobs with rich pensions, armed guards, and even the Presidency of the U.S.
Anyone still wonder at Trump's popularity?
Keep cheering.
It's next to impossible to get concealed carry permit in Maryland today
ReplyDeleteShe walks during the day, not night hours
ReplyDeleteYou're telling us something we all have been claiming for years. Salisbury is a high crime area. Stay away if you want to be safe!
