Undocumented NC Students Hold Rally Calling for Scholarship Eligibility

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Undocumented Guilford County high school students want the 'Say Yes To Education' scholarship program to expand its eligibility requirements.

The students want to be included in the local scholarship program that provides free tuition to in-state public colleges and universities.

"Why is it that that it's different with me?" Araceli Garcia-Garnica said. "Why is it that one simple piece of paper matters to them so much?"

Garcia-Garnica was among the students and teachers who attended a rally outside the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center Tuesday. The Say Yes College Fair was going on inside.

Garcia-Garnica has lived in the United States since she was 2 years old. She is here on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) which is an immigration policy that allows some illegal aliens to receive a renewable 2-year work permit.

  1. Let me explain this to you. First, if "one simple piece of paper" like proof of Citizenship doesn't matter to you, why should a "simple piece of paper" like a college diploma matter to you?

    For someone who can't understand that "tuition" is a fee you pay making the very words "free tuition" an oxymoron makes you ineligible for college in the first place. Go back to fourth grade and brush up in your dictionary skills.

  2. It's different with you because legally you are not supposed to be here. Your parent broke into our country like a thief breaks into a house. It's time for all illegals to go. You do not deserve our welfare , food stamps or any other entitlement because your parents crossed our border illegally. period

  3. Because Ms. Garcia-Garnica has lived here since she was 2 years old, and is now of college age, she's pretty much only known America as her home. Not saying it's a perfect situation, but if we can't see her as a fellow American, then what the hell kind of values do we think we hold?

  5. Undocumented? Do you mean illegal aliens?

    Who allowed illegals to be enrolled in a State college anyway?

    I don't care what you think. This is a sovereign country and those illegal complainers need to be deported!

    YES = legal
