Flash Flood Warning for Wicomico and Worcester Counties, MD

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Flash Flood Warning for: west central Worcester County in southeastern Maryland. Central Wicomico County in southeastern Maryland.

• Until 5:45 AM EDT.
• At 1:45 AM EDT, local law enforcement officials reported thunderstorms producing Heavy Rain across the warned area. Two to four inches with locally higher amounts of rain has fallen. Flooding is reported in Salisbury, with several roadways underwater.
• Some locations that will experience flooding include: Salisbury, Fruitland, Salisbury University, Delmar, Hebron. Green Hill, Chesapeake Heights, Trinity, Catchpenny. Lakewood, shad Point, Salisbury-wicomico, Longridge and Allen. Additional rainfall amounts of one to three inches are possible in the warned area.

Turn around, Don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.

Heavy rain is falling through the overnight hours especially over portions of Delmarva. A flash flood warning is in effect for much of Sussex County, Delaware through 715 AM. If you encounter a flooded roadway, do not drive through it! It can be tough to judge how deep water is, especially at night and only 12 inches of fast moving water can carry away a small car.
