Making It Happen - Summer Edition

Keeping Busy!
I’m often asked what members of the General Assembly do during the interim between sessions. This is the time of year where I schedule as many appointments as possible with constituents, business owners, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and influential members of the Governor’s cabinet. This allows us to work together to create important budgetary items and legislative proposals before session. I emphasize partnerships with all stakeholders and the administration to craft well-conceived, creative solutions to issues without the time constraints of working within the ninety day window of our legislative session.

One of the ways we hear about issues is by attending as many community events as possible. It’s my conviction that I need to be as accessible to everyone as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have an idea, issue, or concern that you would like me to know about.

Over the past month the Lower Eastern Shore seen a lot of activity- far too many very important events to mention. This is by no means an exhaustive list, so apologize if I have left anyone out, but I wanted to offer my congratulations to Matt Maciarello on being appointed to the Circuit Court bench, Dr. Donna Hanlin, who became our new Wicomico County Schools Superintendent, Gene Malone and Maria Waller, who were appointed to the Wicomico County Board of Education, Board of Education President Donald Fitzgerald, who was re-elected to his position, and Joe Ollinger, who was elected as the new Vice President of the Board of Education.

I want to thank Governor Hogan who visited Ocean City a few weeks ago to address the Maryland Municipal League Convention. The convention had representatives from 130 of Maryland’s cities and towns. He also attended the Tawes Clambake in Crisfield. Likewise, Comptroller Peter Franchot has been to our area multiple times in the past month.

We were blessed with great weather again this year at the Tawes Crab & Clam Bake!
Right now summer continues to get warmer, but before we know it the kids will be back in school and we’ll be preparing for fall. We’re fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Stay safe, but enjoy our Eastern Shore summer- it’s shaping up to be great!
I am very thankful for your support and blessed to represent you in the General Assembly.
