Hogan calls teachers union officials ‘thugs’ on Facebook

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Maryland public school teachers union is shaking its finger at Gov. Larry Hogan for calling its advocates “union thugs” in a Facebook post.

The Maryland State Education Association said on its Twitter feed Saturday: “We should never resort to name-calling.”

The tempest boiled up Friday when Hogan responded to criticism of his recent decision to save, rather than spend some state funds. He wrote that his administration has spent record amounts on education while protecting teacher pensions.

He concluded, “Don’t believe this phony ‘cut’ propaganda from the union thugs.”

  2. That is exactly what they are. Right Betty Weller? Stop riling up the teachers on Facebook Betty. He was calling YOU and the rest of your sad leadership thugs, not us everyday teachers. You are evil people. Very evil.

  5. This sounds a little like Trump calling out the union as "thugs". Maybe now he will endorse him.

  6. The union thugs came to Wicomico county several years ago and broke into the local association building and stole information. They refused to allow local teachers to choose on their own whether or not to be forced to join the state union. They used local moots to do their dirty work. A judge ruled they were wrong to do what they did, and told them to return everything. They did not do what the judge ruled. Check on judicial case search for Gary Hammer. You'll see.

    1. Oh yes I remember that! That made up lies about the local leadership who I felt truly cared and worked hard to make things better for us employees. I also felt they used fear to brainwash people to see things their way. Dirty tactics that's why I left the union.

  7. If the teachers need more money, how about raiding their Union's slush fund for a few million. It would be a drop in the bucket.
