Pharmaceutical company Mylan drove the price of the EpiPen — a lifesaving necessity for many allergy sufferers — up 400 percent, according to Bloomberg. As if that weren’t bad enough, the story took another turn for the worse.
The Los Angeles Times reported that not only did Mylan drive the price of this lifesaving product up, the company also avoided paying taxes. As it hiked up the price of this lifesaving medication, it was dodging its own tax responsibility.
Moreover, the CEO of Mylan was Heather Bresch, the daughter of Democrat West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin.
The Hill reported that Bresch could be called to testify before Congress, which would certainly be an awkward family reunion situation.
Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., was one of several members of Congress to speak out about the situation.
