Sen. Ted Cruz said Thursday that he accepted Donald Trump’s request to speak at the Republican National Convention later this month in Cleveland, but that the subject of a possible endorsement did not come up at a meeting earlier in the day in Washington, D.C.
“We had a positive and productive meeting this morning with Donald Trump,” Mr. Cruz said. “Donald asked me to speak at the Republican convention, and I told him I’d be happy to do so.”
Mr. Cruz and several other former 2016 GOP presidential rivals of Mr. Trump have yet to offer a formal endorsement. Mr. Cruz said there was “no discussion” of any endorsement in the meeting.
