CINCINNATI (AP) — Civil rights activists frustrated by police slayings of blacks across the nation are looking to flex their voting power to push for reforms.
The continued alarm over how police treat black men has been a major focus of the five-day NAACP national convention that was wrapping up Wednesday for thousands of participants in Cincinnati. Members of the group that dates to 1909 compared the issue to the 1960s violence against civil rights demonstrators and mob hangings of blacks in earlier eras.
Cornell William Brooks, the NAACP’s president, pledged in a fiery speech Monday to end “lynching in the 21st century … practiced not with sheets and ropes but with defiled uniforms, defiled badges and defiled oaths.”
The convention’s theme of “Our Lives Matter, Our Votes Count” underscored goals of defending black voting rights and getting out the vote in the first presidential election since black turnout helped Barack Obama twicewin the presidency. Black voters cast some 13 percent of presidential ballots in 2012, according to exit polling, and are particularly pivotal in Ohio, Florida and other swing states.

Ask yourselves how well you've done under Obama, then look forward to the same disappointment under Clinton, only worse. Our current dispair will be magnified tenfold, which is their plan. Let someone else take the helm.
ReplyDeleteI think most people, both black and otherwise are smart enough to make up their own mind about who they should vote for. They don't need the NAACP or KKK or anybody else to tell them.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that the NAACP acts like they own people and that they must agree with a candidate in order to bestow those votes on him or her. It's an insult to black people to categorize them like that.
Screw the NAACP. All Trump needs is the lazy ass Americans to get off their lazy asses and vote.
ReplyDeleteThe low educated black people are in slaved to the Democrats. Just the way the Democrats like it. Without the handouts you are nothing, canr feed yourself, cant put a roof over your head, cand even take your sick children to a Dr. It's sad and its time to take control of youl lives, time to wake up. God will give you the strength and the wisdom if you ask him. Not the people with a agenda.
