The loss is certainly an awful thing. But to close a major hwy for 4 hrs? Sometimes I wonder who is making these decisions. Close the lanes each direction next to the median the for the safety of the first responders and let the world keep turning. MD is the worst at this along the east coast.
I don't know about eastward travel how easy. But I am sure those people could get around and get to OC too. West bound traffic was efficiently bypassed around the accident. While 50 was closed east and west access was not to destination was not.
There were car parts in the intersection of the original walmart light. It was hard to tell because of the damage and the fire, but it looked to me that the car was on the east bound side of the tree with the front of the car facing east.
Anyway.. This is the second fatal accident in the last few years from someone hitting that tree.
I drove by this last night right after it happened. The car was fully engulfed in fire and had also caught the tree on fire. Wouldn't surprise me if the had to remove the tree for safety. It was a horrible sight.

ReplyDeleteThe driver had been "ejected" from the vehicle and was obviously dead when the first responders arrived.
DeleteThe guy's last flight could have been to runway 50E, necessitating closure of that side as well. Unexpected launch often results in a messy landing.

ReplyDeleteWe should ban trees.
