A Viewer Writes: SFD

Hey Joe,
Saw this parked behind rite aid on college and 13 S, yesterday, Monday lunchtime.

Interesting place to park!

    1. Exactly my thought. What's the complaint? That they're out at business with the truck or near the fire lane. If it's the fire lane, there's no issue because it's not in the lane. It's adjacent to the "lane" and not blocking ingress or egress of any (other) emergency vehicles. Next time they should be sure to park in marked spaces. Like across 10 of them so you guys would have something else to bitch about.

    2. Totally agree. What s the issue. Some just have to have something to gripe about.

  2. Conveniently directly beside Chipotle where the front lot is small and recently the fire department was called about a possible gas leak.

  3. The fire truck should be parked at the fire department, not riding around all day and parked behind CVS at lunch time, that's yeah and....

  4. Me, I hope all is well - You, OMG, got to send a picture to SBYNews to get the masses in an uproar.

Somehow I am not as disturbed by this as you are. I wish folks would determine the reason - BEFORE - posting. Many times a poster looks the fool when all is said and done. Is there any reason you were unable to approach the driver and ask "What in the world are you doing parked here"? Posting the picture shows you to be most upset and ready to sling mud at SFD before the facts are known.

  5. Seriously a great place for a substation!

  6. 7:29 really? U must work for the guberment. It is OBVIOUS they are driving around in the truck while on lunch break. We all know it. We all see it every day. Firemen socializing in Giant on our dime. Showing up for a drunk standing in the classic cakes parking lot.

We see the waste every single day, we throw it in your face every single day and our ignorant leaders do nothing.

    Wake up.

  7. I am not a fireman. I have nothing to do with the fire department or Salisbury. The trucks do have to be driven. The firefighters are on call 100% of their day. Would you rather them drive back to the firehouse to then drive farther south to come to a fire at your house? I would say not. What is the bog deal? At least our taxes are going to something that can save our lives and houses.

  8. All I hear is wahhhhhh. Bunch of cry babies on this blog. Bet you won't care where they park when they run headfirst into your house on fire

  9. Somebody needed a prescription filled for painkillers? Pretty simple

  10. I am not ragging on any fire department, but I remember the staff use to enjoy fixing meals back in the day in the station kitchen. They didn't ride unless it was for the job and the equipment made out fine and lasted longer.
Also, don't show up at my residence unless I call. I have seen some cowboys do more damage than the fire does.

  11. Great place to park, in the fire lane and out of the way!!!!

  14. In case of a dumpster fire they are pre-positioned.

Driving in the adjacent lots is very tight; must have taken some time to get on the premises and get parked.

The issue of driving the engines on food runs is evergreen.

  15. Ok 8:02, since you know everything about the fire department, do you know what the call was dispatched for? Some calls are dispatched as medical assists which means a fire engine is dispatched automatically and responds with the ambulance for assistance. Sometimes we get there and it's a complete BS call but we can only go off of the information that is provided by dispatch. If you're so concerned about how the fire department operates, why don't you ask them next time they are out "on your dime". Or call the headquarters building and speak to someone who can answer your questions. Or stop by the firehouse and ask the guys. But we both know you won't do either of those because you're just a keyboard hero.

    1. And to add to your comments, who does the code and compliance checks ? SPD, WCSD, MSP ??? The fire department..Also, they must due new hire/volunteer driver training and reacurrence training. Sometimes be thankfull that an engine is parked at a business, it means nobody's live or property is in danger at that moment. Before judging them, walk a mile in their shoes, before trampolining them over with yours.

  17. Hope you guys enjoyed your lunch. "F" the cry babies on here. I am not a FF never thought I would enjoy it. Fire-Water hmmmm These guys have to eat and the apparatus should be driven every day. No story here

  18. You need to worry about people parking in the fire lane at Walmart and going inside. Plus Im sure you people take your work vehicle to get lunch, so whats the difference?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The difference is my work vehicle isn't being fueled with money from tax payers

  21. 9:25 AM doesn't matter how "concerned" we are, you do what you want. You waste our money constantly. You have no concern financially for those of us paying your wage.
I have seen you in Giant shooting the breeze wasting your time on my dime.
I do not need an explanation for such behavior.
You are a wasteful organization and I know this for a fact because I have lived in other communities that perform much better than you and are more fiscally responsible.
Others may listen to your lies and excuses, but I know better.
I don't need to go down to the station only to be lied to and have someone throw their BS at me.
Some of us actually are smarter than you.

    1. I figured that's how you would respond. Rather than get some facts and educate yourself on the topic, you already know it all because "that's how other people do it." So tell me, what do you know about the SFD budget? What do you know about the personnel? What do you know about the day to day operations? Do you know anything at all about the fire department? I'm not being a smart ass, just wondering what makes your argument of wastefulness credible besides seeing fire apparatus on "lunch break".

  22. Dear Rob,
Since you are such an avid supporter, you pay for the fire boat and it's maintenance.
    Signed,

    1. we are talking about the trucks, not the boat. Take a look at how many other vehicles the city owns. Now, how many are driven each day? How many of those people use their city owned vehicle to let's say, go to lunch, go shopping, or maybe even drive home to take a break ? The main reason we pick on the SFD so much is that you can't miss seeing the trucks.

  23. Will someone help 12:10 PM, they do not seem to have anything relevant to say, and their self importance and ignorance is showing.

  24. 10:49 AM, my work vehicles is not a couple million dollar fire truck and the taxpayers did not pay for it, nor the gas wasted trolling around town sightseeing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So, other than a small amount of gas, where is the waste? What is the difference between sitting at the station, when they are not busy and taking a ride to go to the store? They have to eat and may need to get some Tylenol from time to time. They work long hours, so I am sure they don;t always have time to go to the store before a shift! Taking the engine out for a ride, if that was the case, who knows, maybe they were on a medical assist, also gives them some driving experience. So, would you not want an experienced driver of a fire truck come to your rescue when you are in trouble? I know I would.......Anonymous 101

  26. 1:43, lots of us work long hard hours and do not go shopping on work time, neither should they. You win the dumbest comment of the day award.

Don't they have a million dollar kitchen? Pack a lunch or cook in the taxpayer supplied kitchen.

A few pennies for gas? I got an idea, since you condone it, you can fill the tank. Deal?

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1:52 seeing them shopping, running personal errands and eating, while using the truck is sufficient evidence of wastefulness.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Of course you see them driving around in the truck. The truck has everything they need. When you see them shopping they are shopping so they can cook dinner in their "million dollar" kitchen. You bitch when they go out, you bitch when they cook. Make up your mind, must be miserable always having to find something to complain about.

  30. I exercise with my dog a couple times a week at the softball and soccer complex on Naylor Mill Road. Most of the time i witness a parks and rec pickup truck number 40 sitting far back in the parking lot not moving for 30 minutes or more. Then creeps off down the entrance road. Just thinking these guys must start late and take lunch in the late afternoon.

  31. Bunch of freaking busy bodies. Now do you know why good professional people don't work foe the city. Your stuck with the uneducated switch hitter Stevens as administrator. Or that COW who doesn't know her job at the water tranferstation

  32. One person should go and get lunch not a crew. To those that say what if they get a call. Well what happens if there is a fire a block from the fire department the entire crew is not at the fire house they are across town. Had they sent one person the rest of the crew could respond and the one person getting lunch could meet them there. Less fuel was used and less wear and tear on the fire truck.

    1. 801 this is why people shouldn't have three day weekends. They get bored and post stupid crap on SbyNews because they're avoiding spending time with the family or have nothing better to do. Read a book morons. Enrich your mind.
