To Brock Turner’s Father, From Another Father

Dear Mr. Turner,

I’ve read your letter to the judge on behalf of your son Brock, asking for leniency in his rape conviction.

I need you to understand something, and I say this as a father who dearly loves my son as much as you must love yours:

Brock is not the victim here.
His victim is the victim.
She is the wounded one.
He is the damager.

If his life has been “deeply altered” it is because he has horribly altered another human being; because he made a reprehensible choice to take advantage of someone for his own pleasure. This young woman will be dealing with this for far longer than the embarrassingly short six months your son is being penalized. She will endure the unthinkable trauma of his “20 minutes of action” for the duration of her lifetime, and the fact that you seem unaware of this fact is exactly why we have a problem.

This is why young men continue to rape women.
This is why so many men believe that they can do whatever they please to a woman’s body without accountability.
This is the reason so many victims of sexual assault never step forward.
This is why white privilege is real and insidious and usually those with it are oblivious to it.

  1. What the hell is with the white privilege crap , the color of your skin has nothing to do with what the judge has ordered. If there is a problem with the sentence , the judge is the one who really screwed up as with the judge who screwed up Trump.
You guys get a hum on something and you play the race card , now it's the white privilege card. Start thinking for yourself.

  2. Excellent and so true, this boy will never learn his lesson or hold himself accountable because his father has taught him he doesn't need to, hence making him the victim and not the poor girl who's life will be nightmare after nightmare, it never goes away, she may eventually be able to get past it, she will NEVER forget it.
That boy is a piece of scum!

  3. History has proven that most people incarcerated, in their minds think they are either innocent, or it was the victim's fault or someone else they do not accept blame. Even if there is DNA evidence and the criminal sees it and recorded video of their actions, they just say they don't understand it can't be them. I understand love and supporting your family but don't be blind.

  4. Let this be a lesson to young woman who drink until they are not conscious......while rape will never be right, you put yourself in a dangerous situation when you are no longer in control.

  6. Was with him until the white privilege b.s.! It's not white privilege that's the problem, it's uber liberal judges and politicians.
